All I can say is that I was the second owner of my 1969 (I've had it foe about 27 years now), so I assume that if there was a foam gasket between the body and the rail, it was there since the beginning. Trust me when I say that new roof rail gaskets and a foam peel and stick gasket between the body and the rail will fix your problem. Period!
