Ok, so I do get the "1" click. After that, I can push the door further in, but no second click as stated above. I have tried moving the striker in/out with no success. The button is normal. The window is down. The door is not springy when closed.
I will do what George H recommends regarding the hinges. I do need to note the doors are not original, were bare and after paint, they were installed to line up. The hardware was installed later. It looked as if all I needed to install was the striker and I would be in business. The passenger door was fine but I guess the driver's door as suspected might be off slightly........That said, I will attempt video or pics in the near future.
I seem remember this same problem many years ago as a youth with the driver's door not closing, but getting the "1" click" on a 73 Scamp and thought the latch was jacked. I doubt my parents would remember.

I did the "semi" slam method early on. I won't risk that again, but all my interior panels were off....
