I've got a kidney stone, the first one I've ever experienced. They are going to perform lithotripsy today. Shock wave treatment. Has anyone here had this done? If so what is there to expect and what kind of recovery process is there if any? I've talked with doctors but wanted to hear from anyone who has actually had it done to them. Thanks for any advise.

I did one years ago, Put me out, did not have any discomfort. I passed the stones the next day. I was in the hospital two days.

Good luck

Lucky you Steven190

I had it doesnyears ago. They knocked me out, waited until I threw up afterwards, sent me home with a prescription for 750 Vicodin, (water pills IMO) 2 every 6 hours!

That was a joke as I consumed 4 every 3 hours and I was in major discomfort with the only relief of walking! YES! Walking helped a lot!

When the doctor (hack/butcher/quack called up as a follow up, (yes, seriously!) I told him what I wrote above and he called me a liar as it was "Impossible to be awake after consuming that much in Vicodin."

I then told him that IF it was possible to sit still long enough to make the 40 minute drive to him in the car, that I would show him the remaining contents of the vile and promised him an *** whooping followed by dragging him chained to my car up and down the main Hwy until his arm or head becomes detached from his body. I ranted with honest supreme anger and told him under NO circumstances that this was a idle threat but in fact, was fact of his future for his have been lied to and lied to well about "Mild Discomfort" after the procedure.

I am going to tell you straight out that I did and honestly;

"Screamed my bloody head of for Jesus!" Until I passed out.

I HAVE TRULY FOUND the PAIN that you WANT TO GIVE YOUR ENEMIES!
And if you truly hate someone, this is the perfect torture to deliver over and over again and again.

When I find that doctor.......
And I **** you not!!!!!
I will bind and gag him until I get and learn how to use that machine so I can practice pain dispensing for Satan himself.

A teeeeeming hot shower was very very good in helping the
"Pain management" of this. Along with the doubling up of the water pills.

GOD bless an good luck!

Rumblefish !!WOW!! Hopefully better than that now that a few years have passed. We'll see, thanks guys.

Seems I remember Roy (SGBARRACUDA) talkin about havin kidney stones one time on here. You might see if he will chime in.

@SGBARRACUDA

My Wife had it done twice...obviously the first one didn't work. Second time was a little better. She had no real discomfort from the procedure itself...just passing the stones is damn painfull.

I had it done in the 90s. Knocked me out. Came out in pieces a few days later. It was 10 mm. The bad parts were they put a tube up my pecker when it first happened. Hoping i could pass it. They knocked me out for that. Didn't work. Stone was too big, hence the lithotripsy. It took six weeks to get it done, cause they only had one machine in the area. The anisthesiologist missed my vein. Felt like my hand was on fire. Two years after I had intense pain in my elbows. What happened to cause it i don't know. Then when i went to have the tube removed, they put my legs in those stirrups, and pulled that tube out while I was awake. Yes, it hurt like hell!

HOLY CRAP!!!!!! 10 mm is over 3/8 inch. It must have felt like a baseball in there.
I had a 4 mm stone a couple of months ago. That felt like a golf ball.

I had a 9mm busted in October of 2013. The pain beforehand was the worst part.....when the thing was moving from my kidney to my bladder. They knocked me out, did the shockwave thing, and sent me home. I passed the chunks a week or 2 later. Passing them didn't hurt, in my case. I was peeing, and the flow just kinda stopped, then PLINK, PLINK, PLINK! I have not had another one since, and don't plan to! I only drink water with lemon. Doc says that's the best thing to prevent them. Must be something to it...I've been x rayed 4 times since I passed mine, and have zero kidney stones! Tea is bad, as is wheat bread, too much milk, and antacid stuff like Tums. Hope your procedure went well. You might pee blood the first time or 2, so don't be alarmed. That's normal, and goes away quickly.

Got through the procedure just fine, it was 9mm they did the shockwave deal. Had some blood the first couple of times but has since cleared up. I'm on pain meds so I feel pretty good right now but keep having sharp stabbing pains in my kidney. Thanks for the input guys, hopefully never have another one. My doc says lemon water as well so I'll be getting used to that stuff.

Yes I had my first stone, it was March 6th 2017, a Monday. I went to bed and two hours later woke to the worst pain I have ever encountered in my life! Took a week to pass it all the while Dilaudid,Morphine didn't do **** to ease the pain. I hope the hell I never encounter that level of pain again. And yes my urologist said to drink water, or with lemon,or lemonade he said was good also. Basically told me any brown liquid is bad. I still have my coffee in the morning, but water any other time.

You guys are makin me cringe. I had a stone around 95--98 or so. I woke up around 1AM, thought it was bad chicken (left overs for supper,) then appendix, called the 911 girls who I kinda knew as I'd been doing some work over there, and said, "if you don't hear back in 1/2 hour send the truck," then finally managed to drive to the hospital, only about 2 miles away.

The pain came and went. I got into the back room, they ended up shooting me up with morphine. **** things were GREAT.

Anyway, "it went away" and they scheduled me for "up the tube" surgery, and removed it. By the way I HAVE FOUR KIDNEYS!!

Heard horror stories about friends who can't pass them, etc.

I tolerate pain pretty well, but my bout with the kidney stone kicked my butt so hard I was wearin it for a hat! The only relief I could get from the pain before I got it busted was to take 2 of the oxycodones they gave me.....and jump into the hot tub with 104 degree water. INSTANT relief! I just had to remember to get out before the oxy's knocked me out, so I didn't drown. I just had a flash back, so I'm goin to get some lemon water!!!!!! :BangHead:

OMG that tube was the worst hell on earth!
I was knocked out for the procedure, but when I woke up I thought my pecker was on fire!!!
I was fortunate and was able to pass soon after (like within 30 mins) but it seemed like days!
Everything I moved was like coffee grounds, so it was busted up good. I just hope to never have that experience ever again.

I hope I don't get any.1 kidney is normal the other is the size of a quarter!Prayers sent to ya

Thank you for the prayers and input. Was done on Friday, still feel like crap. But little bits of the stone are coming out so hopefully it was successful. Been dealing with it for a over a month. Hopefully can get back to working on my Dart real soon. Thanks again.

The stone dropping from the kidney to the bladder is where the pain comes in, at least with me. I drove myself to the hospital; so much pain I must of blacked out cause I don't remember much of it. Triage put me at the bottom of the list cause when you see a little baby whimpering, they have to go first and you understand, and other cases put me down on the list. I ended up laying on the floor with my knees to my chest and the pain finally left me. This was on the weekend. About two weeks later it came back again, but this was during the week, no waiting around.... WOO HOO Gave me vicodin and some kind of IV that relaxed the urethra. Several days later out it came, no pain there at all. And yeah, worst pain I have ever felt!!!!!

Me too, the trip from the bladder with a 7mm stone was nothing; the only reason I knew it was out was when I saw it on the funnel-screen. The second one hasn't come out of the bladder yet as far as I know. Doc says there are 5 more in there.

Holy cow, 5 more. Hopefully they're small enough to pass. Mine was 9mm been passing little pieces all day. Good luck with those.
