CUDAVRT has been disassembled, the slanty and automatic have been removed, and it is about to get painted. Soon, I will be installing the new 273 and 4-speed combo.

Questions:
Can the engine/trans assembly be installed from above as a unit, or must the engine and trans be installed separately?

Should the Y-pipe be installed before the engine is installed?

I would be easy if the radiator support could be removed, but...

Thanks i n advance,

You can install the engine and tranny as unit if you can clear the hood (if it's still on). I recommend getting a tilter for the hoist as you'll have to tilt the engine/tranny down then back up as you get lower.

I have had really good luck installing the engine , trans , k-frame & suspension from underneath the car as a unit . Takes about 20 minutes.

I'm guessing he's like me and doesn't have a lift, if it can be done in 20min without one, you are the man

If you get an engine "leveler" then it's pretty easy to pull and drop the engine and trans together or engine only... It's nice to be able to angle it in and level it when you are lining it up on the mounts...

Get a couple of weight lifter buddies over, have one lay under the car and the other two can "lower the engine down as the big mongo "bench presses the small block onto the engine perches.
