20 years wondering no more

I may be wrong on the gear ratio, am I missing something though? Did mopar not have a 4:10 gear ratio? I know I am running the chevy 4:11 Richmond set up in our 400bb duster. But just doing a quick research on the Web shows there being a 4:10 sure grip as an option in these years for the 8 3/4. I may be wrong, and if so my apologies. And as I did state before, it has been 20+ years and probably 20,000+ beers ago. So it's possible my memory is fuzzy.

It's not called a POSI. This is a GM term.
It's a SURE-GRIP.

Lol. Okay I missed that part. Just glad I didn't put the wrong ratio down. My apologies for sure, I will keep the terminology all mopar, "sure grip" 4:10 it is. Thanks for keeping me honest guys. This is a fun place to forum.

Mopar had a 4.10. Just not a posi.

Such a great story. You do need to get in touch with the owner just on case. Not to hijack your thread but I have a similar story with a old Super Bee I once owned. I need to contact the present owners too....just in case. Pic is from the late 70's

I would go back for sure and talk to the person that owns the car now. Perhaps they may not want to sell it but they might be interested in trading for something that they really want. Sometimes after a while, people get tired of their cars and really want something else. Maybe you could find what else they want and buy it for them and do a trade. Just a thought as it is something I would ask. Let us know how this turns out.

No new update on this one!? I would love to hear if you ever got to talk with the owner.

No. Wasn't able to find the owner again. The area we were in when we saw it was so busy and congested and we were pulling a car hauler through there at the time. So other than a general location we didn't get an address. So we have been back through the area, but never seen it in a driveway again. But the weather is getting nice again, and we are go through that way once in awhile. But honestly I'm holding hope out to run across the car and owner at a car show or the mopar nationals at the drag strip this summer. Especially since it's located fairly close to both us and portland where we saw it last. It's a good chance to run across a car like that. Mopar guys are after all usually hardcore mopar guys and no self respecting mopar guy would miss the Nats. Lol, I hope. I have faith we will cross paths somewhere now that I know it's at least still in oregon. But thanks for asking how the search was going.

Thanks for the update and good luck! I sure hope you can get it back into your family. Keep us posted of course!

Absolutely. It has to come home to us, I know when the time is right it will find us again. Lol, my older son has already laid claim to it when it does. I'll let you know for sure. Thanks.

Go back. Trust me, it will haunt you.

I just found my 1974 Duster after looking for 11 years. I lost the car in a real bad business deal when I was 20. Got screwed by a family member and lost my shop and all the contents of it, the car being one of them. I happened to spot the car on Kijiji a few months back and explained my story to the guy that had it. He's an amazing person and gave me a shot to buy it back even though he had other buyers lined up.

I was just talking about the same thing with my wife and kids. Especially since I had a guy ask me to do work on his cuda. Same year, color, drivetrain and all. It reignited that urge strongly again. I'm having a new shop built this fall and want that car back for my wife and I to be able to work on it again like we used to. Well and involve the kids this time. The mopar nationals meet is coming up in a couple weeks here, I can feel it in my heart that it will be there waiting for us to tru and buy it from the current owner. I'm going to pull out all the cards, memory lane, family, tears, all of it to get it done.

I've found a lot of car guys get it when it comes to the sentimental attachment of these cars. Many of them will be open to a deal they may have otherwise not entertained. I wish you the best of luck with it.

Thank you very much for that. I tell my family all the time that part of the attraction to classic cars is the people that you meet are good people. The kind that you want to surround yourself with.

Hey I wanted to wish you all the best of luck, I have a few ideas. Do you still know the vin#? I'm not sure what Oregon's DMV computer software is like but in California you can do a title search by the vin. If it's not registered currently it's kind of a bust except it will tell you the last registered contact info and they might know something about who they sold it to.
Next try the local parts places around that area. The counter people remember cool cars, maybe they know the owner.
If you find your car the current owner might still be having the same issues and might want to sell it.
Lastly since your in OR. Google Mark worman and graveyard cars. Call his shop he has been putting together a contact list of clients and mopar owners around the west coast. He might be able to help plus that's the exact story they want for their show. Man falls in love with car, has to loose his love, but has never stopped searching, and now has found his first love and now ........
That's good TV .

We do still have a last copy of the registration paperwork with the vin numbers. I have been wanting to go check out the graveyard cars shop. I live about a 45 minute drive from there, so that may be a good reason to finally go by there. Thanks for the ideas. I'll let you know how this works out.

good luck getting your cuda back! my parents special ordered a gts back in aug 67,,and took delivery in mar 68, and my mom was drag racing it in April 68,,i was just a kid, but man,,did we have fun in that convertible! my mom LOVED that car, and it was her baby, and her daily driver until 1980, and after my younger brother and sister were born, it was time to upgrade to a Crestwood station wagon,,and my mom cried when the kid drove away after buying her dart. we spent 36 years regretting ever selling it,,and 36 yrs later my mom still got upset missing her car,,,,i spent 25 yrs searching driveways, asking at car shows, following leads and rumours and using Google for names and addresses,,and on mother's day in 2016, after visiting my mom, i stopped at another potential dead end lead,,knocked on the door,,and an elderly lady answered. i asked her if she had a son?,,yes,,,did he ever drive a blue convertible dart?,,yes many years ago,,,,was he home? no,,he's married and moved away,,,but that car is out back, in the woods if you want to see it,,,i almost fainted. i chopped down brush,, found tbe car,,verified the vin,,and made her an offer. she refused,,and said if i wanted it,,she would not take a penny for it,,it belonged back to us,,no charge. my brother and I blazed a trail, snaked it out of the woods, called Mark Worman, told him my story, he said to get that car out here to my shop asap
its currently being restored oem for season 9 of graveyard carz. DONT STOP LOOKING!

Wow! That's awesome and what a nice thing for that lady to do! Love to see pics of it and I'll be watching GYC for your car.

PENTASTARPUREIST, JUST CHECKING BACK WITH YOU ON YOUR CAR QUEST. I REALLY HOPE THAT YOU HAVE AT LEAST MADE CONTACT WITH SOMEONE ABOUT THE CAR. MOPAR IS A SPECIAL BROTHERHOOD EVERYONE THAT HAS GIVEN THEIR OPINIONS, YOU HAVE A LOT OF GUYS BEHIND YOU AND PULLING FOR YOU. NEVER GIVE UP MY FRIEND, FOLLOWUP EVERY PIECE OF INFORMATION AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN TO GET THAT CAR BACK TO YOUR WIFE. JUST WANTED TO STAY IN TOUCH AND ENCOURAGE YOU AGAIN, GOD BLESS BRIAN

I did find an old registration a short while back. May have to call some of my state police buddies and see if they could at least give me a name. With Facebook it would be an easy find after that. Who knows, they may be able to get me a contact number as well.

I hope you get it back.
About 5 years ago I had the guy who bought my 71 challenger off me years ago (my first car) call and leave a message on my answering machine, and ask if I could help him get a title, he lost the one I gave him over 15 years ago.
I called him back and left a message, yes it should be easy if I was the last registered owner, but I really just wanted to see the car possibly buy it back.
Never heard from him, I guess he just found the title.
