The engine on my 1971 Duster 340 moved back about an inch. The left motor mount just pivot itself on the single mounting bolt.

Any suggestion of why? how to fix it? New Schumacher engine mount and brackets.

damn - that's a first for me - I am replying out of curiosity - I want to see what comes of this - knee jerk reaction is that it wasn't tight enough to start with and/or wasn't installed correctly and it sort of "self aligned".. is anything else "off" - like fan not straight with radiator?

yeah thats strange is the mount in the correct position on the block ears ? I remember having to shift 1 of my mounts forward to the opposite side of the ears but mines a 360 block so it might be different . I'll say it sure looks like it would be lined up correctly if it were moved like mine .

Those brackets are supposed to have a hole in them for that raised nub(?) on the mount to sit in so they don't twist like that. At this point I'd be a little more concerned about the rear transmission mount because that is probably in two pieces now. It may have been like that for quite some time and you finally hit the right bump at the right angle and the right speed.

I clicked just to see what was going on too. I have no clue. Just take all the bolts out, jack it up and take a peek. Something that drastic should be obvious.

I agree with Lead it was probably cranked sideways into place and loading up the mount , The trans mount is either bad or the cross member might be flipped 180 degrees creating the side load on the mount , If I remember my cross member only really fit 1 way and the mount wouldn't line up right the other way .

is the K member or the Schumacher bracket for a 67 by chance,,,their mounts are in a different spot,, if the bump was in the hole of the bracket it looks like the mount bolt wouldn't line up. also those brackets are left and right.

It's was in line when installed 1500 milles ago....

did you put it together or pay someone ? it really looks to me like it was put together with everything loose then cranked tight side loading the mount in the process and boom it hit the right bump at the wrong time and the mount let go .

check that trans crossmember as well mine was off by less than an inch from side to side when I put it in wrong .

I did it myself. evert nuts were tight, still are...

yeah I believe they are because if they loosened the mount wouldn't have let go , do you get that I am saying it seems like it was forced into position when it was assembled and that put a side load on the mount causing it to fail ? Whats the other mount look like ? is the fan crooked , run a string from the front centre of your oil pan to the centre of the differential , are the trans and drive shaft straight down that line or is the trans kicked to the passenger side ? bet it is .

All the mounts fell in place when installed. Nothing was forced or pried. I've got TTi headers and they fit like a glove. I remember checking the engine position as per tti instruction and everything was as spec..

It's fixed. Bent the bracket to shape and tack weld the support to the bracket. Won't move anymore.

Checked the engine position as per TTI instruction. Spot on, transmission support is good also. Should be ok.

Clutch action is so smooth now!
