I have a line on a 47 Dodge that might be a good candidate for my Gen I 392. I've heard the firewall needs to be moved back among other things to install the 392. If not that motor then a slant with triple Webers. Can anyone point me in the right direction to a website or more info on the pre-48 Mopars. If I get this car, I'd like to have as much info before getting it so to be able to hit the ground running! Here's some pics the owner sent me:

That's my plan for my '26 Dodge coupe - only they're Weber-style throttle bodies :)

(and I've not seen any Mopar specific street rod groups - if you find one, please post a link!)

Didn't those come with a flathead 6? If so, that's longer than a gen1 hemi. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you have to move the firewall. May have to make the tunnel bigger.

Just be ready to do some sheetmetal work on that car. Seems most is there minus a few pieces of trim. The HAMB would be the place to find info I`d imagine.
I`d go for the 392! don`t let a firewall recess skear ya too much:eek:

This is that axle you sold me many moon ago. My 52 is getting close to done, I can`t wait.

Just go to Google.. and type in 47 Dodge and you should get some good information back, including possible engine swaps, suspension upgrades, etc. I sometimes go to www.jalopyjournal.com which has quite a bit of old stuff and so on. There are many books out there too, to check out, including magazines. We have a 33 Dodge Coupe w/400/727 trans, with an 8.75 from a 68-70 B-body rearend. So.. there are many, many different idea's/things a person can do/think of, to make the car his own unique masterpiece. Good Luck, Dodge33

Yes on thejalopyjournal.com they have some Mopar groups you can join. Don't shy away from the 392, you can make them fit in anything almost.

Hello,
Check out P15-D24 web site. I visit once in awhile, lots of good info even if they are mostly purists.
Also ratrodsrule, and killbillet ,great sites as well . Hotheadshemi.com if you stick with the 392, or slantsix.org , if you drop in the slanty. All great folks

lol! Reworking the firewall doesn't bother me - swapped the firewall in my 65 Dart wagon for an early A AC firewall. After all as another member mentioned, it's only sheet metal!

Would that be that A100 axle? Don't think I had any other axles!

Yes sir, that be the one, except you said it come out of a 69 A-109, same difference I`d imagine. My 52 3 window coupes current status, hopefully be cruising in a month or so.

Nice looking ride! Actually came out of an A108 - same difference as the A100!

EDIT: what are you running for a drivetrain? I'm about 99.9% sure I'm going to get the 47. The owner let me know today that he's got the free and clear title for it - I really didn't want to go through one of those title places if there was no title!

I bought a 72 New yorker with full intention to harvest the driveline. Seller asked what I was going to do with it? Oh I`m gonna leave it bone stock... Good he says, everybody just wants the engine out of it:rolleyes:.
I sourced all the parts for a 4 spd. Reworked hanging pedals, to do away with the holes in the floorboard, most of these older cars DS floorboards will be rotted bad in that area.
Narrowed the Yorkers rear and added a SG. Long story short Ton O Work to bring this car back solid, like 7 years worth and still at it.
Unless your getting that 47 for a song, Ya oughta get under it and check it good, before the paper exchange.
Good luck, and post more pics if ya get it.

Thanks for the info! Not sure what you'd consider a "song" but it'll definitely be getting a thorough going over before any money changes hands. Late Forty Dodge stuff is not exactly plentiful!

I won the 65 Dart wagon on a lowball bid on eBay; if I had known about some of the rust issues that were not pictured . . . . , but that's another story. If I get the 47, lots of pics will be forthcoming. I plan on using whatever I have on hand for motivation - the 392 Hemi, a 340 or the slant.

OK Dartman, come off with some pics, I know you bought it! lol:)

I did take a look at it and gave the owner a small deposit. I would done the whole amount except the title was not in his name but the previous owner's name. He said he would get the title changed to his name before any more money changes hands- I'm good with that. He's supposed to go to DMV tomorrow and meet with me on his way home.

Both front fender trim is MIA as is the little pieces that connect the hood trim to the door trim.

All the pot metal parts on the car - outside door handles and mostly everything at the rear are pitted of course.

Luckily the grille is stainless steel!

Love the dash. Those aftermarket gauges gotta go!
IMG_7404.JPG

Dash appears to be pot metal as well

Wonder if mileage is original or rolled over at least once? 83980 on the clock.

And of course the obligatory pic of the engine compartment with that high horsepower flathead - that will get swapped out for sure!

Current owner said it might run! Gotta save up the money to let Tri City do the bumoers and guards. I'll start another thread after it's safely home.

The grille looks in great shape.
That dash looks cool, betcha that metal will shine right up.
Yeah my 52 is missing 1 front fender spear and both rocker mouldings, been looking since I bought the car. I think I`ll be driving around a long time with many holes in my fenders.
My bumpers will be painted till I can afford chrome. :D
I betcha with a little work that L head will fire up and may be enough to suit you for puttin around? Thanks for showing.
