Power Steering Box rebuild

If the wheels turn both ways as you slide the control valve back and forth, you probably have it assembled correctly and just need the right taps on the hammer to center the spool valve. I tried a rebuild (rubber parts and gaskets) long ago on my 69 Dart, but the steering would jam only one way. Gave up after 2 attempts and got a rebuilt box. Later and wiser, I tried on my 65 Dart and worked fine. I think the trick I missed originally is that you must keep the input rod turned tight one way (ccw, I recall) to hold all the disks tightly together as you slide the guts in and secure the input collar nut. If not, some disks can shift out of position.
