Magnum oil pan???

Huh? I'm gonna ask a dumb question because I know little about Magnum motors. Why would you put a 360 oil pan on a 318? Are the rear main caps bigger on a 5.2 (318)?

yes mother mopar standardize the oil pans between the 5.2 and the 5.9....with the magnum engines.

Magnums are truck motors, sump is in the wrong place for fitting into an a-body/pass. car. Hence the need for the pan swap.

It needs a 7qt pan, running 5qts, with the matching windage tray and oil pick-up.This gets the oil down and away from the crank, and recovers some lost-power as the revs climb. And they say the oil lasts longer and runs cooler. But what do I know, lol.Just make sure you fab up a skid-plate if you plan on jumping your car!

Wow...you can learn something new every day if you look hard enough! So, if you're swapping a Magnum motor into a car....you need a 360 car pan regardless of whether it's a 5.2 or 5.9, correct?

I am doing a 318 mag swap into a 70 duster. If I use the LA 318 front cover and balancer(don't want to change v belt system) Will I be able to use a 318 pan? Is the rear main cap bigger than a LA 318? Any info is appreciated.

No LA pan will fit a magnum except an LA 360.

Yes fronts are all the same, just rear of oil pan is different.
