Anyone ever use these pistons? I got a set with a pile of 440 stuff I picked up the other day. I am a stock head guy. I usually get them machined, resurfaced, hardened seats, new springs and place larger diameter valves. We measured out some head volumes on a few sets of 452s after machine work and they come out around 84-85ccs. Even with a little off the block surface I think I can still end up around 10.3:1 with a .040 cometic gasket with these pistons. Piston specs in link. I am having to assume where the piston will sit in the hole and used .010. I just spent the last few hours reading about static and dynamic CR and quench and cams and gear ratios and everything in between. Lol....did I do my math right?

Not seeing a link?

Well I was busy at the shop today and stacked up the parts for the machine shop. 1974 casting date, 452 heads, KB pistons. Going with a new forged crank drilled for standard. Not a carb....rods in the box...

Ok...since posting **** is sometimes fun for me, this entire set up is on the way back to the shop tomorrow. Ordered a nut ton of new parts from summit to finish build. Will be topped with Edl 750 on a 7193 Performer RPM. Picked up some cool covers to go with some chrome upgrades. New .600 lift springs for a .509 comp cam and lifters. Should be nice motor for fresh heads with big valves.

Heads are all ready. Block was getting line honed for new crank. 360 I sent off came back, but heads were still getting worked. Was a real nice unit with stock bore. Going to get it together first while I wait on the 440.

Yea that's not a KB236 in the pic. I'm running them in mine. If not mistaken my math got me to 9.6 on comp but I also didn't mill the heads at all an I'm using steel shim gaskets.

You are correct Bob. I was feeling frisky and shot a pic of the stock flat tops out of one of the 360s I tore down. Was in great shape so only required a hone, rering and a balance.

The heads did get a slight surface mill but I went with open chamber heads to make sure I could easily run pump gas. I literally just picked them up. The block I bought had no main caps or crank so I bought a steel crank drilled for 4 speed and it is getting the line bore.

More to follow

Pile of parts for reassembly arrived from Summit and delivered to the shop. Going to build the 360 first...polished the 440 covers, got a matching air cleaner and a chrome timing chain cover.

So there I was months ago deployed with a little time on my hands. Made an offer on some pistons and rods. Sealed the deal PayPaled the cash in my standard immediate fashion and told my wife a box would arrive. Well, at the time I was ordering parts for the Demon left and right and boxes were a way of life for the spouse. The pistons never came. So about the time I figured this all out the seller sends me a message. Mind you, this was last winter, and I get the message a few weeks ago. Well lo and behold they have finally arrived! I have 3 440s at the shop to build besides the one at the beginning of the thread. We shall see speed pro forged L2295 @ .030 with some LY rods

Heads came back but machine shop set aside the block to do some other stuff before they line bore and balance.

Today was a clean up and conquer the pile of motors day for me. Tore down another sweet and clean 76 440. Pulled the heads on a 74 that has a set of clean .030 pistons onboard. The kid I bought it from said it was ready to go....yeah, glad I didn’t trust that. New lifters and a cam, but what looks like a home home job. Not in this house! Officially have five 440s to build...

Got the B&M flexplate for the 360 so it can go together with the 904 and get on the run stand and up for sale.

Getting the .030 over 1974 440 put together with a forged crank drilled for a 4 speed. Looking like it’s foing to be a nice set up for someone after up for sale.

I just put the heads on upside down to compensate.

The pic was taken with the block inverted. Trust me the valve reliefs are oriented in the correct direction. The motor ran for 15 minutes already. I think I might have already experienced a catastrophic failure at this point.
