360 magnum heads on Alcohol anyone try this ????

Was the carb converter to run on Alcohol or is it an Alcohol carb from Holley.....cause if it is converted some of the internal passages may not be large enough to flow twice the amount of alcohol vs gas.
Yes it was converted over to alky. Raised the floats already .. is there something else I should be looking at besides floats?

1-try a new 6al, 2-move your shift rpm up, 2-if it has a rev limiter move it up a 1000rpm, 4-put move timing in it, alcohol needs it, 5-you don't read the plugs the same as a gas motor, 6-go find mike canter's essay on reading alcohol fueled plugs.

Tried new 6al box. No rev limiter. Carb builder said use ngk 9 had timing at 36 dropped it to 33. Havent tried moving shift point thou. Thanks

Are you getting enough fuel to it? I ran E85 briefly NA on a converted 750 carb and upgraded everything to deliver the additional 30% more fuel E85 required. I assume alcohol is even more. 1/2" feed and return, 255lph fuel pump, FI rated regulator.

Can you put a wideband O2 on it? That would take the guess work out of where your tune is in terms of too rich vs too lean when it pops.

I see where you tried a bigger pump already and that your fuel pressure is stable at RPM. I got nothing else. Wideband.

I went from a holley black to a hp150 Holley and no change

Are your heads cracked at the valve seats? Magnum heads have a reputation for cracking in between the intake and exhaust valve seats.

Mate I have a 360 with J heads injected Meth, lunati camshaft and a Vertex. Simple as anything 10.5:1 motor. Runs like ten men. Seriously ditch that carby and after you've tried a single butterfly injection set up you won't ever consider a carb again. The only other thing is I run way hotter NGK BP5ES plugs.

Converting a carb to Alcohol is more than just upping jet sizes. Assuming this carb has big needle and seats? Air bleeds enlarged passages through the metering block enlarged and so on. Also is it something super simple like it hasn't got jet extensions?
Cheers

Its got extentions

Burn on electrode of plug should be in center. Hard to tune alcohol by plug. Water temp should rise by 10 degrees at end of run. u can try closing gap on plug to .025. My fuel pressure is 4 psi at idle and 12psi wide open as per carb builder. We tune off of exhaust gas temp.

Thanks for the tip will give it a try this weekend

Howdy. I've been waiting for more replies to this post but it seems to have stopped. Here's one of my plugs. The reason I've shown this is to show you the heat mark on the bend of the earth strap. I have "J" heads not Magnums and I know you said your carb guy said to run the NGK 9 plugs but they are very cold. Your plugs need to show a mark like this around about this area.
