I had a 68 chevy pickup with worn out linkage. It was a challenge to drive,especially if you never drove it before,worked like a theft deterrent.
I was going somewhere with this- oh ya
If it is worn linkage, sometimes the problem moves with the adjustment, as by getting 1st to work you lose reverse.
