I basically cloned a 380 Magnum crate engine . Tried the Heart throb 2.5 " exhaust , modified it , to fit. Loud as hell with the supplied Imco turbo mufflers , and turned down at the axle. Adding a 3500 stall in the future , will make it noisier . Need muffler recommended , 2.5 " pipe, axle turn downs
 
Heard and read a lot of good things about Borla.
You know I have the Flowmaster 40's and those exits on each side of the car in front of the tires, well when I fixed both rear window tracks and rollers I had all the windows down I jumped on it and OMG!.:D
 
Flow Tech Afterburners sound pretty decent and are pretty economical.
 
Put tailpipes on it, send the noise out the back, big difference, and personally I prefer the stock style resonator, to give it the exclusive "Mopar" sound.. jmo.
 
Hooker Aerochamber mufflers sounded amazing on my dad's 340.

Best flowing turbo muffler is a dyno max turbo. Fit the longest one you can. The tti web site has a list number next to there diagrams you can cross ref at summit. Slip a 2-1/2 pipe into a 3 inch muffler. Tail pipes!!!

Borla is a straight through glass pack type of muffler. Those and the Hooker Max Flow or the Dyno Max max flow are the same and flow the most. Period.

The Hooker Aero Chambers are the best flowing “chambered” muffler. A pair of 2-1/2 inch aero chambers are only good for about 300 hp.

+1 on the Aerochambers. I love them on my stroker. I have them routed out the back. Quiet when cruising and a nice growl when stomping the loud pedal.

Was at the cruise spot Thursday. Watched some chevy guy with turn downs blowing dirt all over everyone's car. You could see the cloud it kicked up. Put some tailpipes on it first. Then decide on mufflers.

That and the sound resonating through the body is the two major reasons I don't like turn downs.
 

I have always liked the sound of them, but they are a bit loud.
Thinking to add a small resonator or something after them before the pipes come out from under the car.
The whole system is welded, so changing mufflers would be a bit of a pain, and I have other higher priorities than making the car a little quieter.:D
 
I have a 340 with TTI headers and a full 2.50" system after that with an H-pipe and Borla ProXS mufflers (#40659) and 2.50" full-flow factory-style tips. Everyone says they love how it sounds. It is a little louder than I like inside though. But those Borlas are really not just like straight-thru glasspacks. They are much mellower.

I love my pypes race pros. Very quite until you stomp it. Car went a tenth quicker when I stalled them

How much power are you making, then how much are you killing with the exhaust pipe diameter and or muffler choice.

2 1/2 is good for around 400 and something hp. Open pipes, 480 tops if that.

Take a 1 5/8/ 1.62 primary run of the mill header, multiply that by 1.8 and what do you get? 2.91 or something? The next closest pipe size is what you should run by the formula, however people have anything from 300-420hp on average and therefore a 2 1/2 is fine or enough and or in most cases , peoples combos are a lil skewed on average, so smaller sometimes gives more under the power band, aka under the cam range.

Hp and exh primary diameter you're running or will be, always figure those in as well as the variables of the combo. Science it out, dont overlook the basics.

IMO, the best he can do cheaply and effectively at a reasonable price is a 1-3/4 header primary pipe size into a 2-1/2 exhaust with a pair of mufflers each flowing north of 460 cfm. This should be the basic minimum for a basic set up. The addition of an H or X pipe should be introduced.

He said he basically copies the MP 380 crate engine. They routinely dynoed north of 400hp. Assume more power for head room. Calculate at 420hp.
420 X 2.2 for total cfm needed for a zero loss. Divide by 2 for each mufflers minimum flow need for as close to a zero loss system.

While exhaust science can get to a long and drawn out thread, the math and pointing fingers at various methods and designs and muffler configurations, his bottom line requested was a quite muffler.

All taken with a grain of salt. A little more or less, a few cfm is OK for a street system. A lot less or more will hinder or hurt. These pipe sizes are for max output. So if you have a 400hp engine at max power level, a 2-1/2 free flowing well designed system is what you need to extract the most from your set up. This is good for drag racers. In the street, to could live with less since your not at 400hp much. (Thinking of cruisers here with a WOT application every once in a while, not a often application like in street racing.)
 
Dynomax ultra flo, these are my favorite as well. Closest sounding to a original Chrysler HP muffler. They get my vote.

The man has a point. Tailpipes make a HUGE difference. The turndowns cause sound waves to reverberate from the pavement to the trunk. The trunk is like a huge echo chamber. I had a 2002 Ram 1500 that I lowered. The stock pipe was in the way so temporarily, I cut off the pipe before the axle. Holy crap the truck was annoying!
In my Charger, I went from 2 1/2" pipes and Flowmasters to 3" (With an X pipe) with Ultra Flo mufflers. The sound was MUCH different even with larger pipes. It is almost too soft in tone now but easier on the ears for extended drives.
