I have a 69 Dart, 340, 4-speed with manual drum brakes.

Background Info: Car sat for 10 yrs and now I’ve got it going again. Completely new drums and all internal parts. New brake lines and distribution block. I did not install a new master cylinder. Replaced gas tank and fuel lines. New fuel pump. Rebuilt carb. Car ran awesome for 2 months.

BUT now when I press the brakes enough to get stopped the engine sputters out and dies. It’s manual brakes so no vacuum. I am no master mechanic and need some suggestions on what to do.

Thanks

Look under the dash around the brake pedal area to see if anything electrical is being moved around when the pedal is applied.

Carb problem or water in gas tank. Weak or damaged battery loose coil wire.

Check the float level in the carb.
Had one that would cut out on a slant on left hand turns.

All the above. Likely not the brakes causing your issue.

Carb float level, also not sure if you have a Holley double pumper but if you don't have one of the vent whistles installed fuel will come up through the vents and flow into the carb throat and basically flood the engine.

I checked before and again to night to make sure nothing has gotten caught up in either the clutch or brake. Everything looks good.

Could it be the carb out of adjustment in some way?

I agree with a carb issue, like a float problem..

Is it completely stock or modified?
If it happens in a place you can pull over, open the aircleaner and see if fuel is dripping from the boosters.
Check all the basics: Fuel level, Timing, idle adjustment (in that order).
Stock fuel pump?

Had water in a jimmy. Sitting idling was fine, shake truck and it would quit. 3 gallons of water in tank.
It ran great until i moved it.
Seconds later it would stall.
Made me a little crazy....

Had another that would quit on hard right turns....
The grumpy hard drinkin heavy smokin mechanic in the back bay yelled change the battery! Not goin to tell you again!
That old prick was right....
