just bought a 418 stroker shortblock. Forged scat crank and H beam rods, forged zero deck flattops, billet main caps, kevco pan and pickup, innovations west balancer. Built by MRL, very little use.
Managed with a little tinkering to get my 10.4 to 1 360 to run 11.20's
Had already decided to swap from 727 to 904 this offseason( already have a real nice 904 i bought off here)
New motor should be 12.7 ish compression with my 58cc eddies.
Should make a good bit more steam, hoping 10.40's or so. Probably need bigger headers, we will see.

Nice,I run a 419,u will smile daily.Grats, Jeff McCulloch Engines.

Can't wait to see the results Don, I know you always meet your goals and that is a beautiful Dart.

2018 is shaping up to be a fun year! Mine is back together and I was hot lapping around the neighborhood. Congrats on the stroker Don. Rick is prodding me into building one. LOL

Looks good Brad, you would love a stroker kit.

I agree. Sharp car. Wish i had bought this new motor earlier, would have made Brad a deal on my old motor and trans/ conv/ driveshaft. With his light body driving it, probably 10 sec car with mild eddies tossed on top of it

Rick is like a little devil on my shoulder. I'm already accumulating parts for a 408. This hobby is a sickness.

Hummm, ah yup! That’ll produce some squeeze.
Any port work or just as casted?

Local guy whittled on them one evening( very sharp guy) best 350 i have ever spent( he literally spent one evening on them)
He didnt flow them, but the car went 12 teens its first outing with untouched eddies. After his portwork, a swap from a Mopar single plane to an air gap, cam change and the previously mentioned milling..... the car went from 12.17 at 109 to 11.26 at 118.40. Milling raised the compression up around 10.4 . Those were the only changes.

27 in the hole slugs, 28 gasket, 58 cc head
Before i swap in the stroker, i might just put my 904 and yet to be bought new 904 convertor behind this mill. I was convinced i could get this thing to run 10's by doing that. Would like to prove it before moving on to the stroker.

To bad it wasn’t an A to B test with the heads. That rpm for surely helped matters.

Changed cam too. Old one was a comp that was around 244@ 50 mid 5's lift. New one 260@ 50, mid 5's lift. Still not much Changing for 9/10th's gain in ET. I doubt the intake made much difference, maybe some, but not much.
Vert only flashes 4500. Its way off. Was in the car when i got it. That 260 cam will like more stall a
lot.
As i said earlier. I am temped to just do the swap to the 904 and a new spec convertor first, before i start on the 418. Should dip into the 10's
Kinda thinking i am gonna use the Howards 268/274@50 cam with the 418. Has more lift and can run the bigger duration with more flash and squeeze on hand. Really like Howards stuff. They grind cams on equipment they bought from Arrington. That 260 cam is on a 106, installed at 102. Sounds like a 50 cal machine gun.... lol

Sounds like a nice recipe! Keep us posted!

Sounds like fun for sure. I do like the Howard’s grinds specs. Didn’t Arrington just close there doors?

The converter was in there already you said. Do you know by who? It maybe low for a grad strip car but looks good for the street. BUT, like many things in life, personal preference comes into play.

Supposedly its an ATI, but until i pull it out, wont know. I have never had any convertor be an issue driving it on the street. So i spec it for the track.
Yep, Howards bought a bunch of Arrington stuff when they closed the doors..... is what i heard

It would interesting to see how much it picks up, of the converters would be the wild card. I'm seriously considering building a 904 for my Dart, just not sure I want to spend the $2000 or so to make the change.

Hey buddy....... thinking more and more thats what i am gonna do. I think the bigger motor will break my 8.75 rear. Think the tranny swap and correct convertor swap should be 3 tenths. Should run 120+

Justin, the $2K is a good chunk of change for sure. The 727 is capable. Resell the 727 & roll it over into the 904.
The 904 is just simply a lighter (lbs.) weight trans that uses less power to drive the wheels. The mandatory converter change and what ever else that needs to be, can add up. But for racing, it’s what you would rather have. But not must have unless, IMO, your racing for the money.

DANA or 9?

How heavy is the car?

DANA or 9?

How heavy is the car?

3300 with me. All steel, flat hood. I weigh 310 currently. Started a diet Oct 1st. Weighed 325 when i started. But i am tall.... lol
S60 probably...... but hope to avoid doing it anytime soon.
Had another car that broke 8.75 off the foot once it started going 10.30's

Good luck with the diet! There never easy and always suck. But when you meet your goal, how sweet it is. I dropped 75lbs., down to 175. It took a while. Worked out for calorie burn with free weights and biked the 6 miles to and from the gym daily.

I had a buddy running high 9’s with his ‘69 Dart w/a 8-3/4 for about a season and a half. An Indy headed 500. There a good rear to a point.

I need hip replacement surgery i have been putting off for 7 years now. Its gotten bad enough going to get it replaced in the spring. Somit really limits my exercise ability. So losing weight just by eating better is taking longer. Realistically want to get to 270 ish. I am 6'5.
I had a 416 flat tappet eddie stroker running 10.70's years ago. Swapped W5 heads on it and kept the shortblock the same. Ran 10.30's first weekend out and grenaded the 8.75.
Later grenaded the cast crank shortblock and built a roller x block 422 for the top end

Wow! It’s unfortunate that now that I have the money I can get the block that I want. I have the same exact idea in my head. Four inch (+?) stroke Inside a race block, 4.125 bore size maybe?
