boy I pulled a stupid move. I bought a used V8 k for my swap. I didn’t check the blind nuts. Had it sandblasted and painted it today. After it turned out nice.... I see that two of the blind nuts are gone. Damnit. The one will be easy. But I’m looking for easy solutions that might be out there for the one way up in the corner. I could possibly fish it up there and maybe get a wrench on it. Maybe. Wish I’d have caught that before all this prep and paint. Thanks for any ideas.

Not fun. How about fishing bolt up from inside, a tab welded on the head to keep it from spinning.
Reason im thinking this is i saved the kit used for installing trailer hitches,a long wire with a coil on the end that grabs bolt and pulls it through the hole.

You're going to have to cut a slot in the mount so you can slide a nut behind it and tack weld it into place.

I think I can almost sneak a nut up into that corner and get to it. But I believe you are correct. Thanks!

You might be able to. You might give that a try first, but I wouldn't spend a whole lot of time on it. Pretty easy to cut a chunk out for access and then weld it back in, and a lot less trying on the patience than trying to sneak a nut back there and hold it in place while you weld it. I know how that would go if I tried to do it, so, I'd just cut an access window and fix it when I was done.

Did you do any gusseting or seam welding on that K before you had it painted?

I did. I welded it up and gusseted some places I’ve had break in the past. I spent all that time doing that and yet.... forgot to check the blind nuts! Dohhh. Ha. Well it’s not a big deal. Just have to prep and spray again but that’s what I get for forgetting! Thanks pal.

I always put bolts in those nuts so that I cannot screw them up with welding splatter (less of an issue now I finally got the shielding gas)...

Nope. With shielding gas there is still spatter.always cover the threads. Zip the bolt out before it cools.plated nuts/bolts will fuse together. Its not a bad idea to chase the threads afterwards.

If you still have the slant 6 K you might just graft in majority of the steering gear foundation. Area a little larger than the gear box foot print with all 3 nuts on it.
I've seen thread here where owners poke shims under the gear box at 1 or more bolts, change the pitman angle, whatever reason. I don't know how the heck that stays tight. These 3 bolts working loose has always been a issue. Good luck with it whichever way you go.

That's why I still do it. I'm no welding near enough to the nuts to cause an issue plus it takes me days to finish one of them up due to available time. I've never had a problem getting the bolts back out.
