1968 Barracuda. Is this the stock radiator?

So, I have a long list of things to do on this car, but up front is fixing/upgrading the engine cooling system as it runs really hot. I just ordered a reproduction fan shroud thinking it would just bolt on. After doing an image search online of engine bays for other barracudas, the radiator looks very different. My limited research suggests different radiators were put on based on whether AC was installed and/or performance engines were installed.

If this isn't the stock radiator, what do you think it's from?

It should still provide decent cooling if it is not clogged up. Are you going off of the stock gauge or ? to determine how hot it is running. Checking the basics is a good start. Is it timed correctly and carb tuned correctly ? is there a good working thermostat in it? I will agree having a shroud will help it keep cool but i had run mine for several years without one and never ran hot.

I am going off of the stock gauge. How accurate that gauge is is a good question. It gets all the way up to the final bar before the "H", and that's on the interstate on a 40 degree day. I do not know if the carb is tuned correctly, or if the thermostat is working properly. I just had the radiator flushed so it probably needs topped off too. These are things on my TTD list.

running hot can come from a lot of things - be sure your thermostat is opening fully (replacing it might be top of my list) Looks like a decent radiator - you really don't want stock unless your out to build a numbers matching a garage queen - they were undersized IMO- I got a new aluminum 22" 4 -strand that keeps my '68 383 very cool in all driving conditions. btw I added separate new gauge cluster - old ones not reliable IMO. fwiw

Get an IR gun and shoot the stat house.

If you're concerned, take the stat out. Take an old stat apart and put the washer part back in. Hit the road and see what the gauge says, but back it up with the IR gun.
Do not leave it like this. Put the stat, or a stat, back in there asap.

I toss 'em in a pot with water close to boiling and a cooking thermometer.

As far as the radiator goes, the one you have is probably just something that fit. Ignoring the shape of the top tank, the key things will be:
the position and diameter of the inlet and outlet
the distance from the fan.

If the engine has the pre-1970 water pump, it's inlet is driver side. It is also shorter than the 1970 and later pump.

Corrogated hoses hurt coolant flow. However I doubt that's a big factor in the coolant temperatures your seeing.
