Today, dollar for dollar, is the 318 faster than the 340 ???

correct? A side note I had a good friend who passed away a few years ago. He made his living building race engines on a national level . He wouldn't touch a block if it need line bored or if it had spun a main. For any kind of performance build He also wouldn't touch a block that had core shift out of his specs for any kind of performance build. Maybe and that's a big Maybe a grocery getter build He might use one of those blocks. He also designed all of his own camshaft profiles according to the flow bench numbers after he got done porting.

So let me see if I follow this thinking. A block comes in. A 40 year old block. With factory machining tolerances. And your guy says it needs a line hone so it’s junk? That is just dumb. Think about it before you type nonsense like that. And how did he set the main bearing clearances? The way you claim this guy did it, he would have to buy bearings, install them, measure the holes and grind each main bearing journal to that size. That would be a waste of time and money. Some of the stuff you guys post is just crazy. And the funny thing is you believe it.
