Steering column coupler removal?

If you disassemble the coupler in place, the box with the body of the coupler can come out of the engine bay, leaving the steering shaft and parts of the coupler in place.

I was hoping to get it out in one piece replace the seal and retainer and reinstall it in one piece
Looks like this is not going to be fun.
