Low peak oil pressure

There were some pumps, Melling I think that had the cup plug on the pressure reg spring installed backwards.don’t remember particulars.Probably no account,but never no.You said you added a HP spring,you sure the cup is positioned properly.If I remember correctly the spring sits against the flat of the cup.

How to Install a High Press Spring in a Small Block Oil Pump

I believe it’s positioned with the spring IN the cup. The spring is also positioned inside the cup on the, extra, new Melling pump I have.

The second pic is a bit deceiving. The plug “face” is outwards so that the spring is sitting inside the cup. The shiny part above the plug is just machined metal on the pump. The plug is pushed down(maybe too far) below the pin.

So is the cup direction on this pump correct or is this one of the melling mistakes?
