Thanks rumblefish360. I agree FABO just might make a motor head out of me yet and I think that would be awesome

Time to start the build up

With what machine shops charge for machine work I would like to think that I don't have to double check their work. With all of the machine work I had done in the past there was only one time that I didn't trust the work and that was caused by them balancing the rods by grinding on the rod bolts...

    318LA build

It's just that I can't remember you ever making any suggestions, just that smiling face and sometimes rude comments. Pull the plugs out of your mopar if you want to. I'm use to us Missouri folks sticking together

    318LA build

I know it is, but with its duration at 0.050 wouldn't it move the power band up? Also aren't the sbm know for coil bind at over .500 lift? And to the op may not want a rough idle.

    318LA build

Hey there hot rod, did you happen to notice that I wasn't the only one who has made a cam recommendation and amount other things? Are you jealous because I thought of a cam before you did? As far as oil I don't see anything wrong with using valvoline 10w 30. For stock compression ratio I think...

    318LA build

    If you're going with the stock compression ratio, the Howard's cam .479 / .494 x 255* / 261* 208*/214* @ 0.050" 112* LSA. Windage tray and a true roller timing chain.

    And go....

Got canceled due to severe weather. Missouri and Illinois had heavy rain hail and high winds. There's over 20,000 people in Illinois without power. Not a good weekend

How would you rebuild this 318?

I think that 3.55s are good enough for in town driving, they will get you good acceleration from a stop. I had 3.73's in my '73 dart and the Do you remember what the lift is for your cam? The duration at 0.050 looks good to me

Advancing stock cam in a 360?

I probably would put a different cam in it too. With him seemingly only going to replace the chain I thought why not advance the cam. He probably wouldn't notice the difference

Advancing stock cam in a 360?

Being in california you should be familiar with emissions. When I was more into engine rebuilding, the stock cams usually had retarded timing because of emissions. And I still believe that the little things that can be done to improve performance all make a difference. Look at the performance...

Advancing stock cam in a 360?

Good question. If the cam already had 4* ground into it and then it was advanced another 4* for a total of 8* wouldn't that cause the intake valve to close that much sooner? I'm just asking I'm not saying it would
  22. D

Advancing stock cam in a 360?

You made a good point but chances of a factory cam having any advance already ground in it are slim
  23. D

Advancing stock cam in a 360?

Advancing the cam 4* on any cam will cause the intake valve to close sooner and closing the valve sooner helps build cylinder pressure and increase pressure equals an increase in both torque and power, how much difference I don't know but since your installing a new timing chain why not Advance...
