    it wants more than 22 degrees at idle, more like 26 or 28. I have run as high as 40 degrees total with no pinging. I do agree on the curve needing slowed down, I can add stiffer springs. Carb is an Edelbrock AVS, heavier springs is the only change from stock.

    First off I despise 383's possibly more than the 318. The 383 has no right to call itself a big block. I've built more than a few and they always disappoint. ALWAYS. I've actually been refusing to build them if the customer wants a " stock rebuild, im only cruising, don't care about performance"...

    BBP Front Hubs?

    Yep, the op mentioned trying it and it didn't help. That's a very tricky adjustment. You want it two smidgens too loose rather one smidgen too tight. If you get it too tight, the car will track wherever you point it but won't change unless you move the wheel. It's not a good feeling.
