How would you rebuild this 318?

IMHO If you are going to spend significant time out on the highway (60 - 80 mph) even with the OD 4 speed I would bet you will find the rpms a bit much Remind me what gears you have in it now...

How would you rebuild this 318?

No to 2.02 valves in a 318 bore. You might have to notch the block just to have it not hit and if you do get them in the shrouding would negate the value of the switch. I think you have a great set of heads for a street 318 just the way they are!

    Restart the rebuild

Steve - how hot did it get??? it's possible that you have air trapped in the block that just isn't making its way out. can you see the water circulating in the radiator? While it's cold you might crack the two block drains for a bit and then pour the coolant back in the radiator.

    Sanden A/C Compressor to fit a 273

The Classic Auto Air brackets come from Bouchilon (BPE) so don't pay CAA's mark up. (my brackets had Bouchilon printed right on the bracket). If you are using factory AC pulleys DON'T use the Classic Air/Bouchilon brackets that put the AC compressor and the Alternator on the same belts. The...

    Belt guidance

Just to be sure that you know - using that factory non-AC water pump pulley will realign your belt grooves for the system that is shown in post #18 - the water pump and alternator on the crank groove toward the engine and the Power steering on a belt of its own in the crank groove toward the...

    340 motor mount orientation

Look at the mount shape in post#7 (which is correct) compared to the picture of yours. I agree that there is something hinky (that's a technical term...) about yours compared to the NOS mounts that I have on the shelf.

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

The fact that it has dual exhaust will boost what you get from the swap. The engine is an air pump. If the exhaust is restricted (stock single exhaust) the higher the rpms, the more it make a difference. The intake and exhaust work together for the best gain from each. I would bet 20hp at...

    Oil dipstick full mark

MP dipsticks come as a matched set with tube and stick. OP is absolutely correct that the distance out of the block is the operative question as the level of oil below the crank is the issue. But with unknown parts sources it is possible to have a mismatched tube and stick, and yes tube length...

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

send a pm to Halifaxhops here on FABO - he's right there in PA. He does a great job of checking out, repairing (if needed) and recurving your distributor. first thing I would do is put a dual plane 4bbl intake on it. With dual exhaust and 360 heads, that motor is just begging for it and the results will be significant.

    LD4B Intake question

I am curious, how did you get the intake ports on the LD4B to seal on the taller 340 ports? I have a couple LD4Bs and it seems there really isn't enough meat above the runner port to effect a good seal on a 340 Port. Have you run this engine yet???

    Question on parts value

Remember you only need one buyer... Don't sell it cheap if you're going to be kicking yourself every time you think about it down the road How long have you already held onto this stuff? An ideal buyer would be someone restoring a race car to as raced condition from the era when W-5 stuff was...

    Question on parts value

The parts that you offer are very specialized and probably worth what you ask or more to the right buyer. Most folks here are working on cars that they drive, or a restored car that they show, for even occasional racers this is more than they need. You might look at advertising on a more racer...

Does a '69 air cleaner look wrong on a '70 Dart Swinger 340

70-71 air cleaners are pricey, but not that pricey. I saw 3 or 4 at Carlisle last year for $4-500 depending on how much work was needed. The key to looking good (IMHO) is a nice new pie tin on top, even if the air cleaner isn't exactly the right year. This one is on my 1970 Dart GT, and the...

ten years is a long time, lots of hot and cold cycles to form condensation in the block, even taped up for that long doesn't mean no air coming in and out.
