take out the current gear and count the teeth (may be printed in little circles on the flat of the plastic gear). Buy a gear with 25% more teeth...

If you did the ammeter bypass and still blowing fusible links most likely the issue lies in either the battery/alternator or starting circuit. You'll need a wiring diagram and a voltmeter to find the short.

If you get your wheels balanced using tape weights on the back inside of the wheel (middle of the rim), you can get the weights out from behind the trim ring and have it fit a little tighter.
