    Have you ever lost

When I finally made it to 70 3 years ago I thought, wow I feel pretty good, I have enough strength left to do anything I want, my wife and I have enough money to be comfortable and have a toy to play with. That toy is our 66 Belvedere, built 440, (500ish hp) 727 with shift kit and 3.91 rear...

    Old man’s memories

1975, I had left the Air Force after 4 years active and bought a used 75 Roadrunner. The car was a real slug being a 318 auto but it sure was pretty. After work one day a few of us went for a beer or 2. After 3 bars or so someone said we should all pile in to Ricks Fury and go to Stans apartment...

    Random Carburetor Question

Most Q-Jets were year and model specific. The number on one of those could be worth its weight in gold to a dude with a 68 427 Stingray. Also they came in 750 and 800 cfm, the latter are pretty hard to find. Jerry

Wife went out and bought me a present

On my Toro Titan when the engine is not running the hydraulic trans axles are locked up. If I lose power while cutting this beast will not move. In order to push it around the garage there are spring leavers that have to be un-latched to free up the axles. Go out and try pushing your Scag...

    Another boring mpg story…

NW PA here, 35 miles from Lake Erie, it is humid here even on the best days. Here are my facts. 12 year old Echo string trimmer. E10/87 stays in it from season to season even throughout the winter and it starts with 3 pulls every spring. Original spark plug and primer bulb. The same story is...

    The Lucky Kid

This post brought back a memory for me. It was 1979 and the year before my wife and I were finally able to buy a new car. A beautiful black and tan Mercury Zephyr. The following year an elder lady backed out of a space at the local plaza and crunched my driver's side front fender. I was upset as...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

You probably don't want to hear this but you should make sure the engine in the car is the same one you had rebuilt. A fresh 340 is worth a lot of money and it wouldn't be hard for him to dress up a 318 for your car and sell the fresh one for a profit at your expense. Sorry to bring this up. Jerry

    The thrill is gone?

A couple of weeks ago, while looking at the usual hotrod sites, I saw a drop dead gorgeous 2013 Camaro SS. ( Don't hang me yet). My 73 year old mind started working overtime and I decided a great hotrod that only requires cleaning and driving sounds really good at this point in my life. I have...

Should I be feeling more power?

This could be as simple as the transmission is shifting too soon. Take the car out and pull in down to 1st gear. Run it up to 4500 rpm or so and shift into 2nd. With the 3xxx converter you will stay in the power band and she should keep pulling until your shorts are dirty. Any 340 I have had...

    Forum names explained.

Shenango is a river running through Western PA. The name comes from a native American village near the town where I grew up. My Dad and I fished many places on the river and I have photographed many areas from the head waters at the Pymatuning reservoir to the confluence with the Beaver River...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

It's a shame the engine build wasn't a straight forward success but it is a success at this point. You have to understand this forum and all forums in general. When a problem is spotted, no mater how it turns out, some members will jump on it like a bulldog on a ham bone. Im sure the engine will...

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

I had a Tempest with a 400 in it. The water pump has a stamped sheet metal plate in it. That plate came loose in the one I had and sounded exactly like that. Í know you ran it without belts but the noise I heard in the video is what my Tempest sounded like with that loose plate. Jerry

    Trying to summon the motivation

I'm 73 real soon and can relate to all that has been posted here. When I parked the 66 in December I had a mental list of what I wanted to accomplish this winter. My garage is not heated so I plan my "car" days around my propane heater and the length of the job I want to do that day. I only work...

Scat procar seats ? Anyone running them?

My seats came with adjusters and I bought their universal mounts and bent them to fit my car. Wasn't a bad job at all. They do sell mounts that are designed for some cars but mine wasn't one of them.

Scat procar seats ? Anyone running them?

I put scat procar buckets in my 66 Belvedere. They are well made and comfortable. The front back track adjustment and the tilt adjustment both work smoothly. After 2 1/2 years of use, I have nothing bad to say about the model I bought. Jerry

Life goes by fast- enjoy the small stuff

We lost our son to a heart atack a year and a half ago, he was 51. One moment he was washing his car in my driveway and the next he went down never to get up again. It's always a good sign to wake up on this side of the grass but you never know when it will be your last wake up. Enjoy the people...

Why do I ask myself why?

It takes me 1.75 hours to cut my grass and that is my alone with my thoughts time. So once a week I ponder the heck about life's little problems while no one is around to bother me. A couple of hours ago I built a fire and sat by my little river for a while. About 65 years ago my family would...

The Beaver Hole Hardwood Company Begins

This may be a little off topic but does anyone have information about the depression era hobo, A no.1 Traveler ? He supposedly stoled rides on railroads all across the US. There was a movie about some of his time in the North West called Emperor of the North Pole but nothing was mentioned about...

What If Build Ideas...for Land Speed Racing

From the Talladega records book. This would have been a 358cid probably Ford since it was Wallace doing the driving. Looks like a very well built small block paired with a great aero package is capable of getting the job done. June 10, 2004: Rusty Wallace, while testing a stock car without a...

    Question my wife asked

You are correct and I have removed my "big red x". The icons at the bottom of the posts are an easy way to express an opinion. The only icon that gets an additional response is the BRX. Maybe it should be removed or at least be changed to a little pink x. Maybe people wouldn't be so threatened...

    Question my wife asked

I don't recall agreeing or disagreeing with anything in this or any other thread. Although if you would think a little deeper into the subject the Earth has been orbiting the Sun and spinning on it's own axis for billions of years. It doesn't get any more perpetual than that. By the way, I don't...

    727 Transmission Pan torque

Hi Gator, Jerry from Saegertown here. I use 118 in lbs on my Belvedere and my Tempest with good results. The biggest thing is to make sure the holes in the flange are flat and tighten in steps. Are you working on something new? I thought your 71 was a 4 speed.

Merry Christmas to me!! Just ordered likely my last camera, Canon 5D MK IV

About 10 years ago I bought a 5Dmklll as a retirement present for myself. That camera and my Rebel T2i gave me range from hiking in the rain to creating good images for my camera club. A year and a half ago I decided to do the mirrorless thing and bought a used Canon R6 with a 24-105 kit lens...
