I put a 10 1/2" clutch setup in one of my D/Darts. It has a 1999 Mopar Performance 360 ci - 380 hp Crate engine in it. Used a Challenger bell housing and got the z-bar and brackets and flywheel from Brewers. Great guy to deal with. Used the Doug's 450 headers and a Dodge Dakota starter.
Gotcha. Thought maybe you knew something that I did know about them. I own 2 now and owned another one back in the 1990's. One of my currones is Ted Spehar and Ralph Costa's old race car. Bought that when we lived up in Warren, MI.
I have a Mopar 360 Magnum crate engine in my 66 D/Dart. I had to notch it to clear the steering arm. I heard that some people have taken a hammer to that area.
It took the new owner 22 hours to get to NV to pick up the car. He said that it was a very solid LO23 and is very happy with his investment. I'm sure he will do a top notch restoration of the car.
It has been sold. It is a real D/Dart. Has the original engine but missing the carb, spacer/adapter, air cleaner, and a few other things. No headers. Doug's D450 are similar to the originals but are not exact copies.
The Doug's headers on the D/Darts are slightly different then today's headers. They had 1 3/4" primaries with 3" collectors. Today's are 1 5/8" with 2 1/2" collectors. They had a special built 2 1/2" y-pipe that mounted to the header collector. It necked down to 2 1/4" before the muffler...
Parts are interchangeable on all the 273, 318, 340 and 360 LA engines, so there are a lot of parts out there to choose from. Not sure of part availability in Honolulu though. I'd take a hipo 273 any day. They are quick.
Wanted to know if your solid lifters look like bar bells or are they straight? I tore down down a true D/Dart 273 and it had a combination of both. The original owner said he broke a couple of them. Just wondering.
I have 11 in my registry that still exist. I want to say that Tracey is running a 340 in the race car. That car has been 'for sale' all over the country. I believe he bought it from a dealer in Connecticut.
I have no idea what was done with the engine. I was able to find and install the original carb, carb spacer, choke cable and air cleaner assembly. All are one off parts. I believe it has a higher lift cam than what came in the car. The tortion bar cross car bracket was hacked up to get...
I have 2 real D/Darts. One has a modified 273 race engine with some unknown fenderwell headers. The other has a 380 hp 360 Mopar Magnum crate engine with Doug's D450 headers. Supposedly, the crate engines were putting out around 405 hp so it would be around your build. With that much hp, I...
This picture was taken at the 1965 US Nationals in Indy. Ralph drove 'The Politician' to the F/SA class win. He was co-owner of the 1966 D/Dart also called 'The Politician'.
Per the Valiant.org website, the 273 was designed for the Valiant. It went into production in December of 1963. Your Nov block could have gone into a Dec or Jan produced vehicle. The block should have an assembly date stamped on it.
Not sure why the different numbers. I do know that the 66 D/Darts got the 2403804 springs. About 20 years ago, I went to Eaton Spring in downtown Detroit to get a set made for the Dart. Took them about an hour to find the correct drawing for the springs. It's on a S/O (shown on) drawing or...
Yes. We'll said.
I have 2 HP Darts. One with fenderwell headers and one with Doug's. I have a 4-post car lift in my garage and was able to install the Doug's myself - with no help. The rest of the exhaust was on the car.
The fenderwell headers are of an unknown make and were installed...
My latest D/Dart has a little undercoating in the wheel well area. That's about it. Tomorrow, I'll check to see if there is any seam sealer in the trunk.
