    Another 318 set up

It’s not what I think. It’s what I KNOW. Horsepower and your gears is what moves the car. Think it through. If you had a car with a real transmission (stick car) and you put it in 4th gear and see how quick it gets away from a stop light. It won’t. That’s because no matter how much torque you...

Torque AT THE REAR WHEELS. It can be achieved in the engine build, in the rear end gears, and to a point with the torque convertor by altering the stall speed; most often a combination of all three- usually gears, TC, then engine; in that order. Think of the torquiest thing you can, let's say a...

    What gets a car moving?

Been said that torque is king on the street and that torque is what gets the car moving and horsepower is what keeps it there. Thoughts on this? Now please remember I'm talking about a daily driver and no high horsepower race car. What would you guys suggest on the improvement of a stock 318...

    Another 318 set up

I did a low budget 318 build a few years ago. Nothing special kb167, a xe250 cam, performer intake, summit 600 carb, summit ready to run distributor, hooked headers. I avoided machine shop charges by using stock bore size and used a .028 head gasket. Heads were just stock 302's. I didn't...

Wed thurs and Fri are supposed to be 20 and beautiful sun. Wife and I went to the nursery this morning. It was a last minute thing so grabbed my shorts and did wear a sweatshirt plus my jacket. Glad I did, that wind was blowing right up my backside and created a major shrinkage I'm sure. Plants...

How Not To Fill Grease Gun

I just changed the tubes in both grease guns this past Saturday (pistol grip and 2-handed), and I hate to admit it but...I HATE THE DAMN THINGS! That damn spring gives me grief every single time. Maybe I should try to find a video myself...see if there's a trick I can learn.

    Oil dipstick full mark

I apologize for being a pain in the butt, but I'm looking for a specific answer. I want to know how many inches the oil level is supposed to be from where the tube enters the block. Chrysler must have had a value for that. Even if you change the filter, there's probably still some oil in the...

Left hand lug nuts are back, baby!

Just a minor clarification to your first point- "It’s also true that the different metals used for brake drums, wheel studs, lug nuts and the actual wheel all have different thermal expansion rates, so that heat cycling from braking will loosen lug nuts. Wheel balance and harmonic vibrations...

If torque doesn't doesn't move the car then what does? Almost every performance book says that torque is important for the street as torque gets the car moving and horsepower keeps it there. What size carb and valve's would you go with? I'm probably missing something here but when I looked up...

    Dart seats

Don't feel bad I had a 67 Barracuda with a Ford Pinto drivers high back bucket for a drivers seat and a metal milk crate for a passenger seat in my first car in 1980. What you have there is pretty damn nice compared to that pinto bucket.

Why would you kill the engine with a 500 CFM carb and those small valves? It appears that in your mind you think that’s going to make a bunch of torque (it doesn’t) and that torque moves the car (it doesn’t). I’d rethink your philosophy. And anything under a 3k converter is a waste of money.
