    Thinner Head Gasket Question

I'll be assembling a 360 Magnum shortly here to drop in my '83 W150. This is my first time putting together an engine that didn't go into a motorcycle of some sort, so please bear with me. What I've got: junkyard 360 Magnum shortblock, re-using the stock cam re-manufactured heads from Allied...

Help with a new to me 408

The cam lobe on that worn lifter doesn't look obviously flat, but I have to imagine its safe to say that things shouldn't be put back together with that cam in it. That leaves my options at trying a flat tappet again or going down the road of putting rollers in my la block.

Help with a new to me 408

Any thoughts on what I have here? Comp cam adjustable rockers with stock hold downs? I read about grinding down the hold downs to gain clearance on the shaft. But those rough sides in pic #2 and #3 can't be right..

Help with a new to me 408

Had a bit more time to work on things. I cleaned everything up and slapped the pump an pan back on with some cheap oil to do a compression test before I pulled it. Plugs all looked sooty and black. Yes, the metal pieces seem nonferrous, smooth and malleable. The cone/tip piece turns out...

Help with a new to me 408

Hi All, Been a while since I sold my Duster due to good old life changes, but recently picked up a '82 W150 with what I was told was a LA based 408 in it. I got a ton of help from this group when I had my Duster, so figured it was a good place to start. What I know about the motor: Cam...

Open 741, Yukon Axles, Thrust Block

sorry, what do you mean by the ones with the clips? Its been a while since i've been in the rear end. #-o I know this is a terrible thought, but has anyone ever just cut one of these off the spider shaft instead of taking the ring gear off? thinking I could pack rags around it, get the...

Open 741, Yukon Axles, Thrust Block

Question for you all, that I seem to find conflicting answers on. Will a thrust block in an open 741 interfere with my Yukon axles with green bearings? I have a 3.92 SG in there now, thrust button removed, but in the next few weeks i'll need to tackle a 600 mile road trip and was thinking...

    Strip intake bolt hole

I have had to do this to my m1 single plane. The PO had two stripped bolt holes. Helicoils are easy and a very good fix. I duct taped the intake opening closed before hand then vacuumed it all up after the fact, remove tape - good to go.

    360 CI/ 380 HP Really?

Yup, I have to agree. I have the 390HP version, only difference is R/T heads. I run msd stuff with a custom 10* bushing from this site. I run 22* and 32* w/ a light blue and light silver. I have 3.91 and an a body 833 with the low first gear ratio.

    360 Crate Engine enhancements

They do rumble, I think you should be able to make it out in this picture. I hear you on the smaller tire, but wouldnt that negate the gear swap? What I was getting at with the cam is would it still be appropriate after a stroker kit?

    360 Crate Engine enhancements

I've got an MSD ignition in it. and 3.91 gears, that being said I'd love some more low end power, its a street car and I have some 3.23 i'd love to be able to run. I've been checking out stroker kits, looks like around ~$1300 for the kits, more if I want/need a forged crank. Can I run flat...

    360 Crate Engine enhancements

Thanks guys. So it sounds like there might be some options for a better cam for my setup, i'll start researching that. The heads are stamped R/T. I believe the R/T heads was the difference between the 380HP and 390 HP version of the crate engine. I have thought about trying an AIR gap, but...

    360 Crate Engine enhancements

So I have a MP 360 Magnum Crate engine. Its the 390 HP version with the R/T heads and 9:1 CR. cam: 230°/234° @ .050" 0.501"/0.513" Lift and it has the M1 single plain intake on it. The engine still seems to run strong and be in good shape, but of course more is always better, I guess I caught...

Help me get the off-idle stumble out of my QF 750-AN Double Pumper

Maybe I missed it, but what intake is on that? I found my single plane M1 with my Holley 750 really liked a smaller shooter (31) and 50cc pump kit with the large brown cam... Before that I had a bad stumble off idle like you described I couldnt get rid of.

[WANTED] Air Gap for 360 Magnum

Wondering if anyone out there is looking to part with an RPM Air Gap for a magnum headed engine. I have an M1 on now that I would be willing to trade after the fact if I like the dual plane better. Of course id pay up front, but could gurantee first dibs on my M1.

All of you guys..been in my position:

I'm in the same position, 31, two young kids, wife, full time jobs, two houses (ones a rental) and a Duster with pretty much the same engine you have in it bought 3 years ago. I've learned a TON by just getting my hands dirty. Did an auto to 4sp swap, new headers, rebuilt the 4sp and the...

Tuning my 360 with a wideband.

I'll say this, I think I'm learning just how much weather has and influence on the a/f mixture, specifically humidity. Its been like 80+% relative humidity in the mornings here, and like 30% in the afternoons, I dropped my idle mixture down a bit and that seemed to help the lower rpm cruise #s...

thinking about the new msd atomic efi system

I have the 390hp engine and have been playing with my carb quite a bit. I believe you have the same intake as I do, the m1 single plane. Mine def. needs to warm up for quite some time before it starts behaving. EFI would make things easier i'm sure, but I also wonder if these crates have more...

Tuning my 360 with a wideband.

Thanks cracked. My air bleeds and IFRs are not currently adjustable.. its a pretty base model carb. But that's not to say I'm not afraid to drill and tap. to touch on the intake again, this would be correct for the air gap, correct? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-7577/overview/ I...

Tuning my 360 with a wideband.

right now I've got the brown cam and a 31 shooter, it seems to really want the large initial hump in the cam. I just drove it again and its quite a bit warmer out then this morning. It seemed to bump the a/f ration up quite a bit, so around 2-2.5k its now in the 15.5+ range and in the 3k+ its...

408 tuning with a Wideband sensor

I've thought about this too, I have my o2 sensor behind the collector flange also, same thing, couldn't bring myself to tap my TTis. If it was leaking outside air into the exhaust wouldn't that cause for a faulty lean reading instead of rich?? that what I would think.

    PCV Valve 'buzzing'

I believe the breather on the opposite valve cover is good. I say this because I can pull the valve out of its valve cover and it still buzzes. The lines are tight. I'll try another valve, i'm thinking one with a lighter spring rate.. I wasn't sure if there was something specific to these or...
