    New Radiator in the Valiant...

I thought about that... But after I installed it, I found I REALLY cant tell on the Valiant, unless I'm really looking. With the hood open, it stands out, though. It doesn't bother me since it's not like my car is an original 'survivor'.

    New Radiator in the Valiant...

I finally had a chance to do a good road test today... This thing is a BEAST when it comes to cooling. No problems at highway speeds or at idle. With the old radiator, I had all sorts of problems, especially on hot days when stopped or moving slow. That is all gone now. This was a great investment!

    New Radiator in the Valiant...

I was having a lot of overheating problems last fall with the Valiant- I replaced just about everything (water pump, thermostat, etc), and still ha issues. My original Radiator had some leaks, and didn't seem to get good flow through it any more, so I decided to replace it with a new one. I...

    New 'Toy' in the shop...

Well, It's installed and working... Makes life a LOT easier. Access is pretty good, too. Of course, there are some things that I will have to jack the car up for so the wheels are off the ramps, but it is SO nice to be able to stand up, or sit down, and work instead of crawl!

    New 'Toy' in the shop...

I agree- The certification or lack thereof is not a deal killer for me, either- While they DO have to prove their lift to get certified they also have to 'pay to play'... There are quality lifts (backyard buddy included) that are not certified. To me that wasn't really an issue, air is readily...

    New 'Toy' in the shop...

Thanks. Yeah, it will be nice once it's up and running. I looked at the backyard buddy lifts, but they were more $$$, and I was already stretching the budget a little with the BendPak. I didn't see much more added value with the BB lifts, in fact to some people since they aren't certified they...

    New 'Toy' in the shop...

I finally did it... I bought a lift! I got tired of jacking up the Valiant and crawling on the floor to work. After a lot of debate and research, I decided that a four post would suit my needs the best. I need it to be moveable since my shop isn't dedicated to working on the cars- I need to get...

Then, Some paint. Candy apple red. White roof- A little orange peel here and there- But I'm pretty happy. I've painted a lot of boats, but this is the first car I've painted. Now, to put it all back together- I've still got lots to do, but I've got the next week off...

    65 Valiant 4 Door

It's been a while since I've posted... I've done a LOT of work since then. First, I got the rest of the paint off- Then, a coat of Epoxy sealer/primer- After the final body work was done over the sealer, I primed the top WHITE- And, The bottom RED. I used House of Kolor KD3000...

    65 Valiant 4 Door

Started stripping the body... She's almost naked! The original plan was to just scuff the paint, prime, and repaint. But, I decided that I might as well just bring it down to bare metal. It really doesn't take all that much longer using the stripping pads that I use, they make really quick...

    65 Valiant 4 Door

A bit more progress... I've started priming some panels. And, The hood/trunk lid- Drivers side doors ALMOST ready for primer- After I finish up any required body work over the grey epoxy, I'll be using House Of Kolor KD3000 RED primer over it. I've decided on a color, too. Body will...

Grinding started... And, DONE. Turned out decent, Although I am still going to need a BIT of filler... Shhhhh! I'll be working a late one tonight- I'm 'transitioning' from day to night shift (I work a DuPont rotation), so I need to stay up until about 3-4 am...

    65 Valiant 4 Door

Now to cut away the damage on the back of the fender... The Plasma cutter will do the trick nicely... That was easy. I love that thing- But I need a LOT more practice with it :) The patch I made before fits!! Next I cut off the rusted out metal behind the patch... I didn't use the...

    65 Valiant 4 Door

More done... I taped off the area to be cut away on the front of the fender, then made some patches to weld in. Then used the plasma cutter to cut out the bad metal. I formed the patch by beating it out on a shot bag... This is WAY early in the process and it still has a really bad case...

    65 Valiant 4 Door

What started out as a quick refresh of the paint job is turing in to a MAJOR project... I suppose that's how it always goes. Hopefully over the next few weeks/months, I'll get all the body work done, and get her repainted! I've been driving and enjoying my '65, but decided to fix a few problem...

New brakes for my '65 Valiant

I've been meaning to upgrade the master cylinder on my Valiant since I got it. It had the original single master cylinder, and I wanted a dual master cylinder for the added safety. I figured while I was at it, I might as well check the entire system, and replace anything else that needed it...

    65 Valiant Refresh

All cleaned up, wet sanded, buffed out... Still some little things to do here and there, but we're already enjoying her. Went to the Main Street Cruise-In in Cleveland, TN today. I think my daughter enjoyed it as much as I did :) While she certainly wasn't the flashiest car there, we got a...

    65 Valiant Refresh

I wire wheeled the rust and scale out- Then I got a coat or POR-15 on- In the areas where the rust was really bad, the floors were a little thin, so I reinforced them a bit with some 3/4 oz. fiberglass mat. Essentially the same thing the you do with the POR-15 floor repair kit...

    65 Valiant Refresh

I hadn't PLANNED on doing any welding on this project- But plans change! I cut out the bad steel, and tacked in some new- It appears that water pooled on the floor- And they rotted from the inside out! The bottom of the car looked as good as new, but the inside was a different story. I'll be...

    65 Valiant Refresh

Sintra is used by Sign shops... You can also get it on E-Bay, it's only about $8 or so a sheet in the size I am using. It is pretty tough stuff, but can be cut with a utility or exact-o knife, even a pair of heavy duty scissors. This is the new door panel- And, after covering it with the...

    65 Valiant Refresh

I've been doing a LOT of cleanup... I am installing new seatbelts, and pulled the rear seat out for access. Since it was out, I figured I'd go ahead and pull the front seat out, too, so I could pull the carpet out and get it good and clean, and take care of any rust in the floor. I got a kind...

    Rear seat belts 65 valiant

I got the rear drivers side belt installed, Then put it all back together to make sure it all fit- It all worked out well. I jacked the car up and removed the wheel to make it easier to get at things (I wanted to inspect the brakes anyway). Even with that, it was only about a 20 minute job...
