    340 w/360 heads, 6 pack & air cleaner help

with more searches,These carbs are likely too big for a 340. Here is a quote from a tripower site about the 4782 center & 4783 outboard carbs: " As Tom Vaught from Ford Motor Company indicates, these were developed specifically for Ford for the 429 6V intake as well as the BOSS429. They...

    340 w/360 heads, 6 pack & air cleaner help

I did modify a Mr gasket Chevy thremostat housing to work. I think Obrien Truckers might have the finned air cleaners I need. Some web searching on the carb to find the proper baseline main jets, I found the same info on the carbs. They are definately Mopar high performance replacements for...

    340 w/360 heads, 6 pack & air cleaner help

Thanks to all who replied. I will get what head numbers I can see. John; thanks for the reply. I already cut the risers, but did so in a way that they can be re-used with long studs. Can you post any info on the air cleaners you have? I found them on ebay when you showed them a long...

Where would I see the AAWJ? The 360 is all by itself from what I can see. There is a casting number also, I may be able to see the whole number

    340 w/360 heads, 6 pack & air cleaner help

These were ID'ed as older "direct connection" over the counter carbs for "off road use". They were auctioned as Tripower Vettes, but some onlooker knew the numbers and posted the info on what they really were. They are mechanical outboard carbs, not vacuum controlled.

    340 w/360 heads, 6 pack & air cleaner help

These covers are OLD, and there is no PCV, so maybe they were designed for 273s when the 273 first came out. Thanks for the info.

    340 w/360 heads, 6 pack & air cleaner help

I have a 69 Dart with the wrong 340. It has a 73 340, but the heads say 360 inside the valve covers. -what else should I look for on the heads to know how good?..or bad? I am putting on a 6 pack with a shortened-down intake so I have room for air cleaners with the stock GTS hood...

World record price for 2 old painted chrome reverse wheels?

I sure don't think they are "widened" stock 5.5 GTS/340 wheels...the profile is all wrong on the dish part. The deep dish on a OEM 5.5 GTS wheel are flat surfaces...the ebay ones sure do look slightly slanted just like the chrome reverse 7" wheels made back in the early 70s. I asked the...

World record price for 2 old painted chrome reverse wheels?

WoW.. On ebay right now and are over $130 as I write. It took me a while to figure out what they were at first, but I finally noticed they were a true reversed wheel and it sure looks like they were chrome at one time. Yikes, I wonder how high they will go? keyword search: Mopar a body dart...

Small pattern Torq Thrust, What "was" available then?

I think I will just widen a set of GTS steelies and use cheater slicks. I'm tired of looking for impossible parts...takes the fun out of the car? I have 7 GTS wheels with 4 button caps, a set of big & little Centerlines, but the rears are wider than the front and the offset is WRONG for a...

Small pattern Torq Thrust, What "was" available then?

Well, thanks to the link from 360scamp, I searched that site and it looks like a T70 American Racing. They had snap-in caps. There are new orig & repro T70 caps on ebay, but these 4"BC wheels might take a special cap with reliefs for the lug socket to clear? I just did some "T70 American...

Small pattern Torq Thrust, What "was" available then?

I think I have 2 coming for the front of my 69 Dart. Supposed to be around 6" on 14". What sizes were available? Just one, I'd bet? What are the chances of ever finding a pair for the rear, or are they not super rare? Anybody know if this wheel looks correct or anything about the style...

    Strange request. Chevy/Ford related

On Chevy casting numbers, I usually just google: Chevy, casting, XXXXXXX. The casting number is on the back of the block. Now, if it turns up as one that may be for a performance car, you need to get the letter codes off the pass side stamping pad. That will narrow it down plus maybe bring...

'69 swinger 340 and GTS stripes

I bought a 69 340 swinger when it was 6 months old and 13,000 miles. They were tape. 100% positive.

Need lower windshield stainless strip 69 Dart

I need the bottom strip only for the windshield. Mine is a convertible with the plastic stuff and I read where a Hardtop would have a real stainless strip instead. I can find some clips to hold it on, if the originals are bad. Thanks

How would you fix this striker?

That damage was not from an accident. It is a design defect as many have cracked right around the big washer. You also can't put a plate in behind, as there is a sheetmetal box inside to hold a captured nut. It all has to move around a little to be able to adjust the striker. Cut it out...

    New crate motor woes

Just to let you know about quality & issues from the old days; In summer 1970, I bought a 69 Swinger 340 4spd 3:91 with 13,000 original miles. The car was mint, adult owned, all stock right down to the hubcaps. I was on the highway going to work and another 340 dart was in the slow...

Diaphram VS 3 finger pressure plate?

Thanks for all the input so far, and knowing that some of you take the spring off. I think these are the only cars out there with a O/C spring, so if a GM or whatever can be designed without one, should I try to change the ratio a little on the clutch linkage to be able to get a softer pedal...

Diaphram VS 3 finger pressure plate?

I already tried running it without the spring, and it's way too stiff to enjoy driving the car, even just around the driveway. It's a heavier car being a convertible, plus a 3.23, so you need to float it a little. 1st gear seems a little too high; as in it feels more like a 2.something rear...

Diaphram VS 3 finger pressure plate?

I was reading the old post on clutch pedal problems. I put a new clutch kit in a 69 340 dart with the diaphram plate. That's the only clutch kit I could find that week around here, and I needed to get the car going. I've always hated the feel of a diaphram in any make of car, and this one...

    Ebay -love it ,hate it

Hard to believe he wouln't pay the shipping AND apologize! What's a few bucks when it is the RIGHT thing to do. Yes you'll get a negative in return, and his will still be in the 90% bracket. So if it makes you feel better, then do the negitive. Or Complain to ebay! I think you have a legit...

    sand blaster

First, you need a pressure blaster, not a siphon feed type, if you are doing a lot of area. Plus pressure type uses less CFM. Then you need a lot of CFM or else a tiny nozzle. Tiny nozzles will keep the pressure up on a small compressor to clean rust pits quicker. Lower pressures will do...

rear end change / upgrade ??

Just my opinions.... The rear of an a body car is pretty darn light. The discs would be "overbraking" for sure...you'd even have to put a brake bias adjuster valve just to keep the rears from locking. Plus narrowing a rear needs to be done right. Take a look at how tiny the rear brakes are...

How to identify 14x5.5" SBP steel wheels

I don't have a big pattern wheel, but on my 4" wheels: 5.5 is stamped right next to the valve stem. Also they are deep dish and the button hubcab will look more recessed. The 4" circle is easy to spot because it really looks small....or just measure

    1970 Dart Swinger 340 found

Just my 2 cents: Rarity as far as the 3 speed is concerned, won't help the final value if it was restored & auctioned. People who can afford a finished 100 point $$ muscle car would be turned off by the 3 speed. That's my opinion, but most everyone in my age group that were around back...

    pot metal repair

I heard that the maximum thickness of a copper coat was 6 thousanths of an inch, plus copper prices are insane right now. Many car websites have posts lately saying that most shops don't want to do potmetal....they will quote 3 times higher just to get you to go away. Plus very few will give...

    Spot weld cutters ???

I never had good luck with the cutters. I just resharpen a 5/16" drill bit so that it has way less of a pointed shape. With some practice you can stop before going through the back panel. Then I use a HD putty knife with a solid steel handle to coax it to seperate.

    Fusable Link

Somewhere I read that a fusible link can be made from a short piece of wire that is 2 gauge sizes smaller than your wire is. Never tested that theory; I guess you could make up a dummy test wire to try it out by shorting it to ground and see if it pops?
