If you purchased the seal kit from O Reilly's, they do have a tool loan program. Put some money down on the puller, (tool rent) use it and return it and get your money back. Sometimes I like the tool, if it works very well, I just keep it.

I have never been so lucky the seal would blow out under fluid pressor, using the gear box bump method. I have seen on this forum using wood type screws and pulling the seal out, I would NOT in any way do this, your chances of scaring the shaft and box are quite high. I have used a mechanist awl...

This could be something simple as, while it was being disassemble after the bench testing maybe some antifreeze could have spilled into the intake. Such as the upper coolant hose, which can hold a fair amount of antifreeze on a hurried removal.

I would think an inner tube would pop like a ballon with ten pounds of air, unless it's within a tire.....imo.

I would be in for 2500/3000 if it drives straight and had brakes, for me the interior would be the deciding factor.

OP has another thread wanting to know what is the best intake gasket and "sandwich gasket" to buy. Maybe a intake vacuum gasket leak? We all pretty much know how much a bear it is to get the intake and exhaust gaskets to seal once the manifolds are divorced. Maybe the OP is on to something.....

Use whatever lubricate you feel that needs to be applied to the rubber, I used tire soap. Have somebody get into the back of the car on their back and then have them lift the glass up using their feet, like doing a leg squat. Start at the back first gently prying outward on the rubber gasket.

I would buy the tools needed to check the engine thoroughly and then make a discission. Compression tester is not a money breaker, and some of the kits have the hose needed to apply compressed air for a low budget leak-down test.

Me, I would turn the headlights on, if they dim when key is in the start position. I would then check battery and connections. Easy test no tools required......
