    Timing Chain Tolerance

That's what I was thinking. It's an easy replacement so I'm just going to buy a new one with new sprockets Thanks for the opinion.

    Timing Chain Tolerance

I also noticed that the teeth are fairly flattened out. Shouldn't they have more of a point on them?

    Timing Chain Tolerance

I'm rebuilding my 225 and when I pulled the timing chain cover I noticed just over a half inch of play in the chain (slop). Is that acceptable? Thanks

    zinc oil useage?

I know this is going to be controversial, but the theory is zinc additives don't really make a difference with a flat tappet cam. It certainly doesn't hurt during break-in and you should continue to use the zinc additive especially for peace-of-mind. The truth is, the Jeep 4.0 has been been...

Going to Check Out a "Barn Find"

Great car (speaking from experience). Looks like mine. Does the engine spin freely? Keep us updated. Great find.

Nice! Does the engine turn over? Did they say when the last time it drove / started?

    170 vs. 225 Swap

Thanks I'll send you a message and then.....what the heck do I do with a "crank pocket adapter"? (I have no idea what I'm getting myself into). I assume I use the flex plate and torque converter from the '63 170 correct? This is a picture of the 225. P.S.: I'm keeping the '63 trani.

    Driveshaft Length

By the way, regarding the V8 in the '63. The first year they offered the V8 in the Dart was '64 (273 only). I have seen two 273 V8s installed in the '63 and it took a bit of modification to the firewall. In the '63 the wiper motor protrudes into the engine bay. See the bump in the photo of my...

    Driveshaft Length

Yeah. For some reason I think 90% of the '63s were white. Dodge must have had a good deal on white paint. In the picture the, front of the car is on the right. The end of the shaft goes inside that round adapter that hooks to the transmission. So it's hard to tell how long the actual shaft is...

    Driveshaft Length

Mine is exactly 57" from the rear yolk to where it goes into the adapter that mounts to the transmission. But I can't tell how long that part of the shaft is because it's inside the housing. I'll add a photo when I check again tomorrow.

    170 vs. 225 Swap

In my '63 Dart, I have installed a very tired original 170 with more than 150k. I also have a rebuilt 225 with about 2k on it that came out of a wrecked '71 Valiant. What are the chances the '71 225 is a direct swap for the '61 170 (bolt directly to the '63 transmission and torque converter)...

    Fuel Draining From Filter

The filter is After the fuel pump. It happens both on my 383 and my slant six and they both have entire new fuel systems.

    Fuel Draining From Filter

I have a clear WIX fuel filter. When I shut the car off, the fuel drains back out of the filter and the filter is empty when I go to start the car the next time. Is that normal? It seems like the line should be holding some kind of pressure to maintain the fuel in the line. New fuel pump, all...

1963 Dodge Dart 270 Convertible for the Wife

I dont think you're going to get that glass to lay flat in the well with the top down. Maybe that's why it's not installed. That would be cool if it worked but the way the well is designed I don't think there is enough room for glass from the back of the seat to the back of the trunk.

    Rear Distribution Block

On my '63 Dart with manual drum brakes, what's the cap for on the rear distribution block? My front doesn't have it. I had to put a little heat on the block to get the rear lines off and I want to make sure I didn't ruin anything.

    Slant Six 170 vs. 225

I was already going to upgrade the exhaust pipes to a larger diameter. Good point. But....how does one go about increasing the diameter of the exhaust manifold?

    Slant Six 170 vs. 225

Good point about the torque. Hadn't thought about that. Don't worry. No dual exhaust.

Air cleaner for 2BBL setup that doesn't hit hood

I was thinking about replacing my one barrel with a two barrel and a two barrel intake on my '63 slant six. I did not realize I might run into a height issue. On my current one barrel I have exactly 8.5 inches from the top of the intake to the top of the air cleaner. What is the height of...

    Slant Six 170 vs. 225

So the guy has a dilemma: I remember 39 years-ago when I last drove this car that the original 170 was pretty sluggish (around 100 hp?). I would like just a little more pep. (I'm not trying to turn it into a muscle car). Does anyone know how much HP is created with the two barrel carb with the...

How to remove rear window trim 65 Dart?

Here's a clip on '67 Fury. You actually have to lift the trim slightly (on the widow side) then slide a very very thin tool (knife blade?) and press DOWN on the clip so it presses against the rubber. First you have to find out where the clips are!! Be careful and patient. I bent a piece of trim...

Push Rod Single to Dual Conversion

I should be all set. I attached the push rod to the bake pedal and let the pedal hang in a "neutral" position. Then I loosened the brake switch bracket and moved it forward against the brake pedal and then retightened the bracket.

Push Rod Single to Dual Conversion

Thank you for your help. The rubber lock retainer fits and works. The boot fits. I'm thinking about a more aggressive return spring to force the pedal back against the brake switch. I don't have the original MC so I don't know the depth of the original piston. Mancini makes an adjustable push...

Push Rod Single to Dual Conversion

'63 Dart with four manual drum brakes. I converted my single MC to a dual MC and I'm using the original push rod. How do I know the original push rod is the correct length? I installed everything and there appears to be too much "slop" in the pedal. The pedal does not push tight against the...

Dual Master Cylinder Conversion All Drums

If I'm using all manual drum brakes, I think I should be able to run one line from the master cylinder direct to the rear brakes (which is then split to each wheel at the rear distribution block). For the front brakes, I think I can run one line from the MC to a front distribution block which...
