New heat in the shop ..electric furnace help

If the breaker in your main box was "way too small", what size wire is hooked up to it? I hope it's #6! If you're pulling 40 amps on a #10, the wire will become a fuse!!! The breaker MUST be the weak link in the circuit!

New heat in the shop ..electric furnace help

Sounds like a recipe for a house fire! Find out what size wire you have and DO NOT exceed the amp rating for the wire size! You can easily unplug the low voltage "control" wire from a sequencer to lower the total amp draw of the heater. What is the KW rating on the heat kit in the heater?

HELP! Compressor now trips breaker on start up??

The capacitor should have the rating in microfarads stamped on it. Usually expressed as 10mf or 12.5uf. Some of them (usually black plastic case) have a range like 125-180 mf on them. You'll just need a meter that reads microfarads to test. There are switches rated for higher amps . They look...

Need advice on a compressor I picked up

The 4 prong has common and ground prongs. You can hook them up to the L shaped prong on your 30a plug. Install any valve and filter you like with the correct threads and proper psi rating.

    Soldering Iron....

Weller "gun" for wiring.....$8 at a flea market. For bigger stuff I either use the antique "hunk of copper on a steel shaft" type, heated with a propane burner, or oxy/acyl and silver solder.

Cheap insulation. Is there such a thing?

Contact the people in your area that build and sell metal building supplies. There are several In my area. They usually insulate as the building is assembled. Some use plastic backed, some use foil backed and some use foil/bubble/foil. All of it is pretty low in R-value, maybe R6. Most...

Insulation done! Shop heater questions. Electrical gurus.

Any electric heater I've ever seen is dedicated to a voltage, 110 or 220, any space heater, unit heater, PTAC, Heat pump, or electric furnace. As long as the amp rating of the wire is not lower than the breaker, you'll be ok. The wire size is the key factor. By the way, I'm a HVACR contractor...

Insulation done! Shop heater questions. Electrical gurus.

That shop shouldn't need more than a couple of electric space heaters. Smallest heat pump is 1.5 ton, unless you wanna spend $$$ on a PTAC.

    Powering a 230v air compressor

Here around the lake where I live, we see stuff like that all the time. Back in the 50's and 60's a lot of the houses were small fishing "camps" that had very little electric in them. Now someone buys a place that's been added on several times, they have to upgrade the service to power modern...
