$75 to calibrate a torque wrench?

click style wrenches are not accurate and are not really worth calibrating IMHO. The reason is they only tell you a minimum torque was applied and not the true torque on the fastener. The click wrench is also going to depend on how you the individual pulls the wrench for the release. I would...

    Best approach to buying tools?

I have mostly craftsman tools in my toolbox, my son I have been buying him Kobalt tools..they seem like good quality for the home mechanic. If you still live at home I would buy different tools then what your dad has that way you dont get them mixed up. For Home use I would see nothing wrong...

    1/2 inch impact

if you can find a IR gun that was made in Athens PA they are good, the new ones I believe are not as good. Also look at Craftsman guns, they ran down the same line as the IR guns and were a little cheaper from what I can remember. the 231 is great, stay away from the quiet series. Our shop...

    Compressor hose size

The fittings play a role in the amount of air that is going into your tools. The hose does play some however, a large hose on a small opening acts more like a surge tank. The smallest opening in your system is going to dictate how much air can flow though a certain area. When you start...

    Compressor hose size

the one thing you did not say is what size fittings you are using on your air tools. If you use the small 1/4" fittings then it really does not matter. Remember the air system is limited by its smallest openings.

How accurate does a torque wrench have to be?

click wrenches are the very basic torque wrenches and are not very accurate. You can give the same wrench to 10 people and they will all get different results when pulling them. The reason is they measure a minimum torque. They let loose if you will when a minimum torque is achieved and then...

Want plasma cutter, but no power hookup

you can do the extension cord route, I would make one, just make sure you get a large enough gauge of wire. Too small and you will start a fire...I think I went overkill on mine but I did mine out of like 8 gauge wire. I use my dryer plug too with like a 35 ft cord.

    Best value 1/2" impact

IR guns are alright, though look for an older one made in the athens plant. When they went to southern pines NC they are not as good. ( about a 2 years ago) If you can find a powerforce it was made by ingersoll rand and was more powerful than the 231C for less money. I had a 231 and the...

    Paint gun recommendation

I picked up a couple astro pneumatic guns. They were sized right for my air compressor. The big thing to remember is tuning you gun every time is important and practice. I have been reading a lot on http://www.autobody101.com/forums/ about painting cars. Might be a good place for you to start.
