More Teeth on the Speedo Gear Will Make Speedometer Read Lower, Right?

Go to Transmission and Drivetrain Tech Forum and fully read the sticky in the top section Speedometer Gear Charts and Differences it addresses the chart and your tire size calculations. Don't use the Brewers Chart alone. Link below. Speedometer Gear Charts - Clarification/Differences

Eary VS. Late A-body rear end widths

If my memory serves me right the face of the drum on a stock 8 3/4 rear measures pretty close to dead center of the leaf spring edge and the fender lip. Which makes sense for design purposes. My wheels had to be 5” backspace with 1/2” offset which is actually equal to a 4 1/2” backspace and...

Eary VS. Late A-body rear end widths

I fit a 17"x9" into mine. No modifications, stock 8 3/4 sbp axle, stock spring location, stock wheel well. The fit was made through proper backspacing and offset on a custom rim. I have a 1/4" on spring side and 1/4" on fender side. I think the tire is just under 11" wide. I don't have a...

    Bad knocking under feet

Like many others who "liked" this one, I'm with Steve. The engine or transmission mount is broken. The engine one definitely creates a thud that goes through the frame and will feel under foot. I've had one.

Has Anyone Tried This Shifter? Seems Fishy

Always look for the MPN (Manufacturers Part Number) in the specs area on EBay. You can usually query it and get a little more info and find other sellers. This one is ASCS1C2B06N2 which is an American Shifter Product as DrEamer said above.

    Vibration Imbalance @3000rpm

Sorry no pics from before installation.

    Vibration Imbalance @3000rpm

I need to check on the neutral balance flywheel. I definitely don’t recall the “external” appearance but the “internal” appearance looks familiar. The bolts are tight and shaft clearance good. I’m beginning to think I have the wrong flywheel.

    Vibration Imbalance @3000rpm

Guys, 318 engine with upgrades heads, intake etc. When I had a 904 behind it there were no problems. When I switched to a 833 4 speed I am now getting balance issues. 1. I checked both and replaced one engine mount. 2. I had the driveshaft shortened and balanced by "the guru" in our area. 3...

    Speedometer Gear Charts - Clarification/Differences

That chart is identical to the first one I posted. And I bought my speedo gear from Brewers but did not use their guide. In my case their chart was wrong. 26” tire with 3:23 ratio is a 32 tooth, not 33. Confirmed by the Plymouth Service Manual.

    Speedometer Gear Charts - Clarification/Differences

I recently changed my speedometer gear due to a rear end change. I found the following information out while deciding what speedometer gear I needed. Almost all sites point to an axle ratio to tire size chart that lists the corresponding teeth count such as below; I queried tiresize.com and...

    Speedometer Gear for Km?

Any calibration gear box I’ve seen is for an electronic speedometer not mechanical.

    Speedometer Gear for Km?

Ha, I had noticed that pattern on gearing to tooth count. It was more obvious to me when reading the Service Manual and comparing their chart.

    Speedometer Gear for Km?

Thanks for your input guys. I did not want to change the faceplate on the speedometer. I was looking at the gear change only and already knew my 32 tooth gear to keep it at a MPH speedometer. I believe 69_340_GTS is correct in that I need to either divide my existing gear (32 tooth) by 1.609...

    Speedometer Gear for Km?

Don't scream my American friends, or cover your eyes if you can't bear a discussion on the metric system and don't read further. Has anyone calculated what the gear tooth would be to get the speedometer needle to read at km rather than miles? As an example my 150 speedometer is reading higher...

    8 3/4 axle seal depth

Yes the seal will bottom out. But have a look first to see that the lip is even in there. One side of mine bottomed at a slight angle. It never leaked but always bothered me that it wasn't quite straight. Perfection can drive one insane! Ha!

    Case differance's

If I'm following this thread right. Do you now have a 2:76 sure grip in a 489 case you want to get rid of? I may be interested.

    489,741 or 742, the Difference?

I have a 69 Barracuda with the original 7 1/4 rearend that I want to get rid of. I also have an 8 3/4 housing and axles without the center section. When I see center sections offered for sale they state different casings such as 489, 741 or 742. What center section should my A-Body have...

    reverse lights not working

If you have three wires going to a plug/switch in the tranny (auto). One will be your reverse lights and one your neutral safety and one will be the power to the switch. The key must be on to check power to it.
