    Well now this just totally bites. Sadly it doesn't seem like I'll be able to afford the swap after all. I'll put up a want ad for a 7 1/4 center section just to try and get the car back up and running otherwise it will have to sit until at least next year.

    Is there a drain plug for the 7 1/4 rear?

    got to take it apart so the car will roll onto the trailer. Just wondering if the 7 1/4 has a drain plug for this or do I have to use the old "remove the lower set of bolts from the cover and slightly pry open slightly" deal?

    The 8 3/4 rear is bare bones, no gears or anything else. I have to pick up all of that. As for power Ive never had her on a dyno. She has some pick me up though so I know she's not a plain stock 318.

    Now someone informed me that changing from a 7 1/4 rear end to an 8 3/4 means my drive shaft will no longer work and would need to be shortened and rebalanced or buy a new driveshaft. Now I know there are no companies locally that can shorten and balance a driveshaft. So shipping one is going...

    Well that is good to know at least. I would love to have a suregrip for my 7 1/4 but sadly they are as rare as hens teeth and I can't afford an 8 3/4 at this time.
