    Edge Racing Converter

The 9.5" version retails for $500 and the pro version for $700+ depending on configuration. The low end street version retails for $260 (think it is an 11" converter) I have been running a 3200 stall, 9.5" in a 904 behind a mild 360 and it worked great. I swapped in a A500 setup for...

    318 converter with a 360

Yes, it is worth it. It is even more worth it to do it once. (I am too lazy to pull a transmission twice) If you can't afford a brand new "good" converter, hit the classifieds. I would target 2800-3200 rpm stall in a 9.5" configuration. Skip off the shelf 10+" units.

    ratchet shifter

Do a search on the Hurst Promatic II for problems. I have one in my Dart and it worked perfectly out of the box with a 904, but when I switched transmissions, I ended up spending a week with it trying to get the detents on the shifter to match the detents on the transmission. Lesson here is if...

    performance 904 vs. A500 (42RH)

The additional rotational mass has a bigger effect if you are trying to accelerate it as opposed to keep it at a steady speed. Everyone has heard if you reduce the weight of a car by 100 lbs it will be .1 sec quicker ET wise. When it comes to rotational weight the effect is 10x as much. if...

    performance 904 vs. A500 (42RH)

I added a small sub in the trunk that sits behind the back seat. I have a full spare, jack, tool bag, folding chair, helmet in a bag, and jacket in the trunk. Race weight (with fat driver) is right around 3550lbs.

    performance 904 vs. A500 (42RH)

Yes this was in my 67 Dart. The Dart has a LA 360 short block of unknown origin and unknown miles. The short block has EQ Magnum heads with 2.02 intake valves with thin head gaskets which resulted in 8.7:1 compression. The cam is a mild roller with 224/230 .050 numbers and .515" lift with the...

    performance 904 vs. A500 (42RH)

I finally got back to the track with a working shifter to get some comparative data between the A500 and the 904 that it replaced. The A500 was setup non lockup and the same Edge Racing 9.5" torque converter was used with both transmissions. The engine tune was the same (timing, carb jetting)...

    A500 weight?

Excellent information, thank you. 904 Dry weight 103 lbs A500 Dry weight 147 lbs 44 lbs difference...that blows the 70 lbs estimate out of the water.

    A500 weight?

Anyone know what a A500 (42RH) weighs without the converter? Can anyone confirm the weight of a 904? From searches on the site I see a 904 with converter weighs 129 lbs. Anyone have a weight without the converter?

    42RH / A-500 in a Duster with pictures.

Question about the hobbs pressure switch. Where are you connecting it to get the pressure reading? Do you simply T it into the transmission cooler lines or are you connecting it to a test port on the A500?

The seal was part of a complete rebuild of the rear end. After the rebuild it has only had synthetic lube.

    Synthetic lube and leather seals

I have a leaking pinion seal and when I went to find a replacement They keep mentioning leather. Are leather seals compatible with synthetic gear lube? I use synthetic lube and wonder if it part of the cause of the leak in my 742, 8 3/4.

    8.75 Pinion seal leaking

I am pretty sure it is a 74x case. What is the torque spec on the nut when you replace it?

    8.75 Pinion seal leaking

Hello all, My 8.75 has developed a rather hefty pinion seal leak. I am running synthetic gear lube, but I don't think it caused the leak. Does anyone know of a shop in the St Louis area who they would trust to change out the seal? I am willing to pull the pumpkin and take it to the shop...

    Detroit locker posi unit??

I have had a Detroit Locker in my Ferd for over 15 years. When I ran the 5 speed, I noticed the slack too. That is just the nature of the beast. You can always tell a car equiped with a locker by just rolling the car back and forth 3" with the car off and in gear. When I switched to an...

Hello all, Should there be leaf spring pads between the leaf springs and the mounts? Where do you get them? Thanks

    Assembling 8 3/4....

All I had for gaskets was a single paper material gasket. I put in new axle seals in the tubes. I then coated the paper gasket with a thin coating of RTV and put it on the end of the axle tube, followed by the backing plate. I then slide in the axle with the green bearings pressed on and...

    Assembling 8 3/4....

This was exactly the information I was looking for. I have green bearings pressed on the axles, so I will only need the gasket behind the backing plate. Thanks!

    Assembling 8 3/4....

Hello all, I am getting ready to assemble the housing and I can't remember the order of the gaskets on the end of the tubes. There is a gasket between the tube end and the backing plate, but is there another gasket between the backing plate and the bearing plate on the axle? I don't remember...

    Questions

    1) Is it possible to bolt a /6 904 to a LA small block? Will the torque converter bolt up? (I hope not, but I just bought a slant 6 to V8 conversion and I have a weird vibration. I am guessing any non-360 converter could cause the vibration.) 2) Where can you get U bolts and shock mounts...
