Good point you made, I never thought about that. Looks like I have someone else’s engine or block for sure. Next thing I am going to too is pull the valve covers off to repaint and I will check the casting numbers on the heads to see if they are 69 or 70. Thanks again

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions, since I am now sure that the Block or the complete engine is not original to my Swinger, I decided to make some changes to it so I just ordered the RPM intake…….

I purchased a 69 Swinger recently Last weekend I started checking the block out with the help from some of the members here and I found that the Casting number 2780930-340-8: = 68-73yr Casting date is 7*70 this had me thinking wrong year motor, but not sure if it could have been a replacement...

Are you saying that you WOULD change it back to the original and keep it that way, right?

I’m thanks for the wealth of information, I will make some changes if I need to get inside the motor to refresh it down the line.

That’s exactly what I am told it has, a mild cam, and yes it does have headers. I think I will leave it alone for now and if I need to get into refreshing the motor then I will go one way or the other.

I can understand that. I have an original 340 manifold sitting on the shelf and I am tempted to install it on the 340 if it is compatible with a Edelbrock carb which is currently on the Performer manifold or purchase a different brand carb

I purchased a 69 swinger 340. I hope that this doesn’t sound too stupid to you but I am trying to drive myself crazy sometimes when I should leave everything as it is….. I am trying to read as much information about the 340 so I have a better understanding on what works and what doesn’t work...

Okay I had to be a Contortionist but I did manage to get all of the block casting number's but the first number. They are *780930-340-8. It looks too be a 340 block with the X heads.

I think I may have found the issue. Two of the Nuts on one side of the carb were snug and the other two were kind of loose. Also the PCV valve was freely loose in the hard a a rock grommet that was split in two areas. I am now waiting for a new replacement grommet that I ordered online. The pcv...

I was able to get a hanging light down near the firewall and a 2” round telescoping mirror down between the header tubes and with an additional high intensity flashlight aimed at the mirror I was able to identify only the following “-340-?”...

good question, I am still trying to figure that out too. The odometer reads around 64k, but that still doesn't mean anything. The heads are X heads, that's for sure, I spotted the X immediately. I want to check the block, I was told to check it like a big block at the pan rail, but I can't get...

I cant get it below 950 according to the tac, I will check the rpm with my other tools but I have to wait a week or 2 for my buddy to get home from vacation because I loaned them to him.

I definitely can take the video on a cold start or warm start, what ever you think is best to do but I have no idea where to begin on uploading it to a hosting site. I will look into how to do that with you tube. It won’t happen until after thanksgiving.

Unfortunately it is hard to say am I happy with it because I am not sure if it is running correctly or not. I just sold a 600hp at the rear wheels car so this is a real different type of car for me.

Never checked, is there a certain spot I should check at, and what amount are you thinking there should be? I will check it on Friday or Saturday and get back to you.
