Fuel gauge & sender resistance issue. HELP

GREAT STORY & PIC! Wow. We need to start a flash back thread. In Ontario you had to use the windsheild washer fluid all the time in a bug. Pray you did not get a flat in slush season. Hay I got pretty good at overhauling gasoline heaters in bugs. I could melt your left knee cap.....lol...

Fuel gauge & sender resistance issue. HELP

 LOL Thanks for the flash back on fuel gauges....I had a few VW bugs over the years (still love them) and the fuel gauge was controled by a cable that went to a float in the tank. That gauge never missed a pot hole, speed bump, bump in the road or a road kill. You could calculate the...

Fuel gauge & sender resistance issue. HELP

I decided to improvise. I bought a stock sender unit from NAPA for $60.00 and made one unit out of the two. One thing to keep in mind is that the brass pointer needs to be removed and sodered on after. You need to take picture or notes on it's location. I next made a full scale drawing of...

Fuel gauge & sender resistance issue. HELP

I don't think that is a good idea. Because the sender unit ground is part of the housing and is screwed to the tank.....It's super grounded. Just a bad idea but, thanks.....

Temp gauge "pegs" and "bounces" HELP

The readings were on the 2K scale. So this is 25 ohms. I have a temp gauge, not warning light. The gauge pegs all the time. I'm gping to back & check the wire from the sender unit to the dash for a short. Stank-by.

Temp gauge "pegs" and "bounces" HELP

Thanks redfish & yes to all. I hooked up the ohm meter to the sender unit and dropped a temp gauge in the rad. Attached are the results. I'm goimng back to triple check the wires & connections. If they check out it must be the dash VR or the guage. Stand-by...

Temp gauge "pegs" and "bounces" HELP

I spent $1,000 having Mick Maccinie re-build the instrument cluster. Which I trust he did. Yes, you are right. When I disconnect the wire from the sender the gauge goes back to zero. It's the second new sender I have put in and same problem. Does anyone have an idea of what the ohms reading...

Fuel gauge & sender resistance issue. HELP

I waz thinking that very thing. Yesterday with the help of my assistant, before the beer. I powered up the car, made sure the tank was grounded, & touched the stock sender wire (Purple) to the GM sender unit. Nothing. So I have to double check the wires again. Stand-by one.

Fuel gauge & sender resistance issue. HELP

1969 Valiant. I want to use my stock fuel level gauge with my after market fuel cell sender unit. My understanding is that the stock system operates in a range of 0 to 60 ohms. Is that correct? My fuel cell sender unit has a range of 0 to 90 ohms. Whay can I do to make it work accuratly...

Temp gauge "pegs" and "bounces" HELP

1969 Valiant I'm just testing the gauges now and the temp gauge is acting funny. I've tried 2 new sender units to make sure it is not the senders. Double checked the connections & ground. The fuel guage is not hooked up to the sender unit at this time. The entire instument cluster was...

Ignition Switch Problem / MSD Ign.

I need suggestions. 1969 Valiant. I removed all the stock ignition wires and equipment and installed MSD, everything. The FORD/GM side of my brain was thinking to tap into the blue/white ("on" position) wire out of the ingintion switch to power the MSD. What I discovered after 2 hours of...

    battery cut off switch

Gotchya! I was going to hook up a bell crank to shut off my fuel valve as well. I did not know it had to be "Push for off". Good to know. I'm also going to install a "lock out" for off track. That way no smart *** can shut off my power or fuel on the street.

    battery cut off switch

Thanks, I know the control for the battery cut off has to be on the outside of the car. That is where it wil go on my car but, I want to have the switch inside the car...using something like a push - pull rod or tele-flex cable and a well marked "T" handle, Maybe coming through a bumper bolt or...
