    Gauges

One thing I found, and I say this because you just called them "after market", cheap gauges are not even worth the time it takes to wire them. I thought I was buying decent gauges using SunPro, but they were one of their cheap lines and nothing but problems. I took them out this weekend but they...

    Need Opinions on Alternator

Well I feel bad hearing all this Mopar bashing, could it not be that most cars with 40 some year old wiring are in need of an upgrade? Also, Dakota, I have not even done the Crackedback headlight relay yet and from the reading I have done, DO IT!, I am, and I have read not one single...

    Chrysler starter spin down time

That makes sense about them being poorly rebuilt, I'm sure most all of them I thought just normal were actually parts store rebuilds, I don't specifically remember any of them being short lived back then but I wasn't paying attention back then either. Remember, you could get a starter for what...

    Chrysler starter spin down time

I used to pride myself on being able to tell what brand car was started in a parking lot by hearing the starter noise, Chrysler and Ford being the most distinct. The first Chrysler starter I got that didn't have that distict overrun noise was my first Cherokee. Even when they were new the...

Crackedback relay kit....What a great electrical upgrade!!!

Crackedback, I hope your not getting tired of making these, I'll be looking for one maybe this weekend. I need to get this done before the FiTech unit goes in and starts pulling more power.

    70-71 Rear LED sequential lights

I was having trouble with my tail/ brakes being to dim, I figured somewhere a ground is a little weak. So I went to Advance auto and bought a set, name brand, not the China junk on Ebay, about $20, they work fantastic.

18 gauge wire good for anything?

I did quote the wrong size, it is 18 gauge. So that will be alright for relay triggers, dash lights and such? If so that's great, I did not mean to buy any less than 16 gauge.

18 gauge wire good for anything?

I've been stocking up on high quality wiring and connectors looms and such, I'm tired of having to cobble together or make parts store runs everytime I need to wire up something. So I'm buying in small bulk to build up a supply, I was shopping online and between comparing prices I didn't pay...

Time to decide on an ignition. Opinions please.

I did decide on a Proform electronic distrubutor, MSD streetfire CDI, Blaster 2 coil and wires. Money well spent, this difference in response and smoothness is huge!

    Idiot Lights

When I turn on my key nothing happens as far as idiot lights doing a bulb check. I just assumed I was going to deal with this when I change out the gauges, the key buzzer does work, I unplugged it, it's an awful sound lol. Today I bent my brakes lines a little to get them a bit farther away from...

Time to decide on an ignition. Opinions please.

Guys I really appreciate the help, after taking it all in I decided to hold off till I'm a little further into the biuld. I put back the original single point and the only thing not stock is the accel yellow coil. And I'm happy to report that it is a driver now. Starting another thread for some...

Time to decide on an ignition. Opinions please.

Please don't take offense. You guys are reading your posts and not mine. I stated several times what the car has, the VR box only has two prongs, nothing like the four or five prong CDI boxes. I really appreciate the time your taking to help but I feel like I'm not even in the conversation.

Time to decide on an ignition. Opinions please.

For now I will just run the stock type system and think about which way I really want to go. So could someone point me to the right wiring for what I've got. The car has single point dizzy and a 2 pin box with a 2 pin ballast, that's what it is wired for and has not been cut up. I would like to...

I see what you mean, so if I got a ready to run HEI distributor would I be able to do away with the ballast, the coil and the voltage regulator ?

Time to decide on an ignition. Opinions please.

thanks guys, but this is where I'm confused, If I have a MSD spark control box, and the matching coil taking care of the spark, don't I need one of those distibutors that just spins and directs the spark, basically a dummy that just spins and hits each wire??? Am I missing something?

    help diagnose whining noise

I agree, it sounds some sort of vacuum related. Nothing under hood can be heard ? Magnumdart had a good point about the radio memory wire, even without the power to radio that still is hot, have you taken the fuse out of both the radio and memory wires just to rule that out?

Time to decide on an ignition. Opinions please.

Well the time is here, everything is just about back in order on my 71 Scamp auto that I rebuilt my first engine for, think I've got most of the bugs worked out so now for the ignition. I've been doing some reading/searching and I think what I would like is the MSD Streetfire box and coil...

    Upgrade Ignition help???

If I buy a street fire 6A type and coil from MSD what changes do I have to make to the wiring? And do I have to use a different distributor, I have a stock magnetic type? Does this bypass the ballast, what does the bassist do that I can,t get rid of it? Trying to get a better idea here, thanks...

    Upgrade Ignition help???

That's easier for me to grasp, thank you Dubob. I'm doing this in stages but the end plan is a new wiring harness, fuel injection and upgraded gauges, electronics. So I want to use the car as this is being done but not have to replace parts because I didn't think ahead. HA!!! Good luck with that...

    Upgrade Ignition help???

Jd, I know they are pretty reliable but I don't have alot of the old school knowledge of the wiring systems, 2 prong, 4 prong, resistance etc, plus no help from desk jockey at the parts stores, I just want it gone. Dubob thanks, but as I was saying, I don't know much about ignitions, so I have...

    Upgrade Ignition help???

I know just the basics on ignitions. I want to do away with the control box and ballast resistor, and obviously get a better spark control. What do you guys (and Gals) recommend? Now, I realize you can get crazy with these, I'm not looking for that. It's a warmed over 360 in a 71 Scamp that I...
