pulsating headlights at idle / 66 valiant

Mine did the same thing, not serious, but annoying. I replaced my voltage regulator and all was fine. I did replace the alternator later on but that was weak.

    Points to Electronic conversion

I agree with you, you didn't say cheap, you said easy. The kit you are looking for is available at Summit part #P3690427, $225.95 or Mancini part #MRE-6993, $199.95. The one from Summit is MOPAR. The one from Mancini I believe has a different Distributon the rest of the parts are MOPAR...

    Bad spark?

[IF you are checking spark with a plug wire hooked to the cap, there's not a damn thing wrong with that spark] I agree, I don't think that you have a spark problem. It appears pretty strong in that video. You should find TDC on the compression stroke and start over again. JMHO

    Removing reluctor

Thanks for all the information. I will try it on the distributor on the 318 first. I just wanted to make sure prying it off was the right way. Thank you all...

    Removing reluctor

This is probably a dumb question, but I really don't know. How do you remove the reluctor from a MP electronic distributor? I read somewhere that you use two screwdrivers and pry it off, marking where the roll pin is located? Is that the correct way? The reluctor appears to be made of some...

    Too much timing in distributor.

Thanks to all who have given me great info. I will print these out and a buddy of mine is gonna give me a hand. I have to fix another exhaust leak that is now on the driver's side. I couldn't hear it when the passenger side was leaking. Someone on this site advised me to grind down the truck...

    Too much timing in distributor.

Tried that. It didn't work. Thanks With the vacuum advance connected the dial timing light couldn't show the degrees, off the chart. I got the 45* with the vacuum plugged and all in at 2500. For now I have the vacuum plugged but I would like to get total time down some. How can I tell...

    Too much timing in distributor.

What do I need to buy to be able to limit total timing in a MP electronic dist.? Right now the car runs pretty good but I can't less than 45* total timing and it is all in at 2500 rpm. What is the kit I need to correct this? I am a novice and don't know what the kit is called. Is it springs...

    Retrosound

I donot know of any, off hand, but I am sure there is. By the way there was minor cutting with the Retro. It is to bad they don't live up to the hype. I will find something else eventually, till then I can sing, maybe not, I can always whistle a tune. Good luck.

    Retrosound

Yes, I have and these are total JUNK. They look nice once installed but they don't last for crap. My first one, yes I am on my second one, didn't last but may a week or two then it quit, Retro sent a replacement and that lasted about 10 usages and now it doesn't even turn on. I said usages...

    Need help with wiring

Just came back in the house. I got it done and it works, hurrah. I want to thank you for all your guidance and patience. Dart273 and RedFish, I said at the start of this thread that I know nothing about wiring and now I can say I don't know how to check things properly. Apparently when I checked...

    Need help with wiring

RedFish, what other problem might I have? The car starts fine and doesn't give any indication of a problem. I will make that connection later today and test it out, bring engine to temp. and see if the fans come on. Now you have made me curious as to what problem might exist that has not...

    Need help with wiring

Thanks for all the responses. I tested the wire at the regulator and found that it carries 9.3 volts and as I am understanding what all of you have said is that is enough to signal the relay to turn on the fans, correct??? Just to give more information the wire that is left to connect is a small...

    Need help with wiring

RedFish, to make myself clear, which I sometimes am not, this connection will serve to power the fans through a relay but it needs to have enough, 12volts, to power the fans. I am looking for a power source that would come on and off with the ignition switch. I had it wired direct to the...

    Need help with wiring

I have zero experience with wiring.. I put eletric fans in the 67 the instructions say to wire to an ignition source. Where is the best place to do this without messing anything up? I truly haven't a clue where to begin. Is it possible to find an ignition controlled access under the hood? I...

    orange or chrome ecu

Thanks, I was leaning towards the chrome box and you are right we have to eat the pricing. I don't know if I need one at all but the new crate is doing what the 318 did for a while. I wouldn't call it a miss but it is like a stutter or stumble. It is a little pop sound, not consistent but...

    orange or chrome ecu

Where is the best place to buy a new ecu? I know that Summit and Jegs both have them but I hate to pay an extra 25% for their handling fees. It is a joke that they say no shipping charge and then tack on the 10 dollar handling fee. The orange is 39 plus change then they tack on the 10 bucks...

Stupid question , is this coil resistor

Those are the parts as you identified. The top one is the coil resistor and the bottom is the ballast resistor. As to whether it matters which wire goes were I really don't know. I would have to look at my car to even remember which wire goes were. ](*,)

    Where is the voltage regulator??

Looks just like the one on the link. One wire push clip on one side and a screwed on wire on the other. You helped me alot, you made me look again and I found it. Thanks. Should I replace the regulator?

    Where is the voltage regulator??

Just came in from my car found the voltage regulator hidden half behind the power booster. Tapped on it a couple of times and the alternator started working. Quite alot of fluctuation and light flickering. Shows voltage of 13+ up to almost 16 at times. Should I just replace it?? Thanks for the...

    Where is the voltage regulator??

I know this sounds pretty dumb but I can't find an external voltage regulator in my car. I had to replace the alternator a couple of months ago and it worked fine for a short while' a couple of months. I had to get another one, warranty, and it arrived today. It is a rebuild from Bosch. I...
