I think this is exactly what happened. I located the red/green plug and it does not fit in my switch. They had it hidden behind the cluster. Thanks again everyone for their help!

Actually I think I saw a plug that looked like that but it wouldn't fit in the switch. I will take a look when I get home.

Apologies it was late and I was frustrated. My question should have been: Is the 1973 - 2 speed switch that I have (3488839) compatible with a 1971 connector/harness and motor? I'll try to get some better pics of the wiring harness today I hope it's the original but I'm still trying to learn...

So a 71 harness is not compatible with a 73 and up switch? Was hoping I didn't need to drop $150 for a refurbished switch on ebay
