Anybody running 17" Cobra Bullit rims on a Duster

Good questions... that’s a tight fit on an early A. Rear axle is probably most critical.

If full droop is the only issue, it may not be a problem in "real" life. There might be some situations where you might see suspension movement that great - strange driveway entrance or something like that, but if you know that's coming you can change your angle of entry. Also, if you're...

I think you're on the right track - the same way you're calculating the fit of the larger BS on the wider axle, you can also use the "front space" plus the axle width to see how the whole assembly will fit inside the wheel wells. You can gain an easy 1/2" per side by massaging the inner quarter...

I need to try one of your front wheels/tires on my Valiant. I'm pretty sure they'll work up front since I'm not wildly different than your setup, but I'd love to take advantage of the space I have in the rear. Still want to be able to rotate tires, though... no tubs to worry about for me...

I tested a 275/40-17 on my 69 Valiant and there is room for it front and rear... Caveat is that this was on a 17x8" wheel, which makes it run a little thinner that it would on a 9" wheel, AND, it was a Goodyear Eagle F1 that is already relatively narrow for a 275. I think when you're getting...

BBM, that' FANTSTIC! Those wheels - and a couple of the other styles available back then - are just great. The look you've got there is just right! Clair

It might make some difference on a tire-by-tire basis... some run a little wider than others size for size, but I think you can easily run a 275/40 on an 8" wheel. I probably have pix of mine somewhere in this thread, but let me see if I can find the link again... OK, here's probably a useful...

Unless the offset or some other component is just crazy, a 245/45 ought to fit on just about anything. If you have any doubt, run down to your tire store and grab one from their trash tire pile and have them mount it up for a tester. Clair

235/55 is a pretty tall tire, all things considered. I think Pauly and I are both running 245/45's and they're quite a bit shroter. Even a 275/40 is shorter, and I''ve got a pic of that size on the front of my Valiant earlier in this thread. Part of what you're likely going to have to do is...

Great info, thanks! One of these days, I've got to bite the bullet and change out my 65-67 B-body rear, build one the width I need, or pony up for some custom wheels that will use the wheel wells properly. I don't know how much of a pain it will be to use an offset rear, so it's good to know...

Hey, Dion! It didn't occur to me, either - until I got a set of the rings to test some other things. Then I though... Rats... missed an opportunity to make it cleaner. Next time, perhaps. Hope all's well with you. Been a while. Clair

If you end up having to machine the wheels, go ahead and get them opened up to the size needed to fit generic hub rings. I *think* this is like 73mm, but you should verify. If you go up to that size beyond the OEM Mopar size, you can sell the wheels in the future as something that will still...

There was another Zebra Dart in Portland for a few years - I kind of think only the back half was done, though. it's on the east coast now, running in vintage road racing. I'm sure there are pics on the web somewhere. It was an early A, a 65 or 66, IIRC. Still a great look in my book! Clair

245/45-17 should fit fine F/R on a Duster, I've run that combo on my Valiant for years with no issues. BBP & cop rotors up front, 73-up K-member & LCA's, 65 B-body rear, 5.7" BS Mustang wheels. I have put a 275/40 on the same wheel and it looks like it would be fine F/R, a little close to the...

I think it's really on the front where it makes a difference. 5.7" BS is about the max you can go before the wheel fits the outer tie rod end. Many 18's will clear the OTRE, allowing greater BS and more tire up front. Probably more critical on Darts / Scamps than Barracudas and Valiants. Out...

Pricey, indeed, but a similar product from Vintage Wheel Works is about the same: http://www.vintagewheelworks.com/products/wheels/v40/17x8 I've got a set of 16x8's for my 68 Fury and they're nice pieces. Could use a taller wheel for the Fury to help fill those wheel wells, but it was a...

Anybody running 17" Cobra Bullit rims on a Duster

I don't have any spacers on my 69 Valiant - BBP cop rotors up front, 65-67 B-body 8.75 in back, 17x8 +30 (5.7" BS) Mustang Cobra wheels. I could use a tiny bit more offset in back, but no more in front. 245/45's fit great, and 275/40's are good, but really getting snug to the inner quarters in...

Are you sure you'll need the spacers? Seems like some of the Explorer rears are about right for a bolt-in. Obviously the wheels make the difference, but there are a lot of wheel choices to get the offset you want to run. Clair

Anybody running 17" Cobra Bullit rims on a Duster

The first limit is the spring, and you can pick up at least an inch or two of space with a spring re-lo to the subframes. Might be able to get more space if you can build the tubs and springs where you need them to be rather than sticking to the subframes, etc. Along those lines, if you know...

Hey, Steve, Sorry for the late reply - was on vacation when you posted the pics and I didn't have reliable web access... The Hotchkiss parts look sweet, but the thru-bolt or stud replacement is taller than I visualized. The price is also 2x what I was hoping to spend, but that's on par for...

You could go ugly and use a sandpaper roll in a drill to open the holes up. I did that with my "test" wheel and it took about 10-15 minutes being careful to open it up just enough. I think it was like $75 to take my wheels to a machine shop and have them bore the centers out to hub-centric...
