Pull the air cleaner....do a little testing and look for a proper pump shot into the carb....any difference between hot and cold?? I know it's probably factory approved, but I'd get rid of the plastic fuel filter and go to an all metal one once you get it figured out.

Get a tester for both the radiator and the cap.... you need to know what pressure you are actually blowing at. And look carefully for damage to both the cap and the radiator top. Does the car have an overflow bottle? Or just tube to the ground??

There are "Chrysler" shims that move the entire starter back a hair.... might just do it for you.

Does the 2280 use a dashpot?? Dieseling usually means bad timing in combination with too high of an idle setting. Also, I'd look hard for any possible air leak issues on the carb or manifold.

If its just the accelerator pump, you would still be able to rev the engine up and maintain speed, as long as you open the throttle slowly. If it falls off no matter what, then you have a clog or lack of fuel pressure somewhere along the line, whether it be at the tank end, fuel pump, or...

This kinda goes across the board but...... anytime you disturb something there is a possibility that dirt/scale/light corrosion/etc. has been broken loose and moved on down the line. So, maybe the carb needs taken down and cleaned/checked to see if maybe dirt got somewhere it cant get through...
