    Are you sure that's what it is and not the bearing in the water pump. Check that first easiest and cheapest to replace. Pull the belts of the pulleys and see if the pump shaft moves up and down by hand. With the engine off of course but you knew that.

    Pull your inspection cover look on the inside to see if there is any marks were some thing is making contact with it. Is the cover slightly dented?

    yes. same direction. Sometimes the gasket gets stuck. When you do get the filter off make sure the gasket comes with it or you'll have a nice leak at the filter.

    The grinding may also be a u joint going bad. Check it by grabbing the drive shaft near the u joint and move it back and forth and up and down to see if there is excess play in it. Or pull the shaft and check them. I had one that made a grinding noise some of the needle bearings were ground up...

    When you pull apart a carb find an old large sheet cake pan or one of those cheap aluminum throw away one. They have low sides on them. Work on the carb over the top when rebuilding. If you drop something it will fall in the pan. It keeps you from losing parts. I've done it works pretty good...

    I'm not positive but I think the 10" spindle shaft is larger diameter. So you may need different bear. maybe someone else hear will know for such. I'll keep checking some other info for you.
