$10 Upper Ball Joint Socket - Really

This broke on me pretty quickly, but I'm glad it works for others. After that, I bought the below set of 2 Chrysler sizes for $40 and it worked great. Still not as cheap as the Ford solution in this post though, but it's the right size for the job...

US Car Tools - new tool to help drop your engine/trans out the bottom without a lift

That's what I thought too. I love nice tools that make a job easier, but only if they're reasonably priced. To me, this seems like something for people with more dollars than sense.

anybody running sch 40 PVC pipe

I've heard with galvanized line, some of the little galvanized bits can flake off inside and cause problems. But then I think, wouldn't rust bits do similar? Definitely should put a soft line between the compressor and your hard line setup. I put mine right after the cutoff that is right on the...

    Hobart 135 - Good deal?

Yeah, just get the 140 new if you're going to pay that much for a used older model. I have the Handler 140, it's a nice machine.

    New Shop. Which lights?

Not all fluorescents make noise. My T8s are completely silent. Modern ones are instant-on too. Some of you talking about fluorescent delay and such are thinking of the old days. Mine turn on instantly same as any incandescent bulb.

    New Shop. Which lights?

Ah, I see... I have 240 on the garage on a separate circuit from the lights, plus all my regular outlets on a different circuit as well because my wife got sick of the kitchen electric going out when she was trying to microwave her lunch!

    New Shop. Which lights?

I'd need 16 to replace all mine, so sounds like they've already come down in price some (or I was just looking at cheaper ones). Thanks for the info. This is good to know. Sounds doable when the time comes then.

    New Shop. Which lights?

I just looked those up... I didn't realize they made LED T8 replacements, so when the time comes, I can just snap some new bulbs into my existing fixtures. I'll stick with the flourescents for now, and hopefully the LEDs come down in price a LOT over the years before I need to do that. $105 for...

    New Shop. Which lights?

This is what I have in my messy garage. 8 fixtures in 2 rows of 4 each. 4' each fixture for 32' total of fixtures in 2 rows. Lights up the garage unbelievably well. I have some moveable fixtures that I can put on the sides on the rare occasion where I need more light from the sides. If I ever...

    New Shop. Which lights?

I have 4 double 8' flourescent fixtures in my 2 car garage and they're great. Come on right away, no issues ever. Tons of light. If I ever can't get flourescent bulbs in the future, I'll replace them with LED, but for now, they're great and they were cheap. Mine don't have guards over the bulbs...

    copper vs pvc compressor lines?

I had everything measured when I went to the hardware store, and they cut and threaded it all to my lengths for no extra charge. Didn't take him long and it all worked perfect. My setup only consists of about 8 or 9 straight lengths at this time though.

    copper vs pvc compressor lines?

Cool, thanks. I plan on doing some upgrades to my setup and if it seems ok, I'd start using galvanized for those areas, then just replace existing with galvanized if/as the need arises.

    copper vs pvc compressor lines?

I've read some places to not used galvanized for air because little "flakes" can break off and get in your air stream. But, I would think they would be big enough for a filter to easily remove? I don't know. I have no experience with it myself, just saying what I've read in case anyone else has...

    copper vs pvc compressor lines?

My black pipe setup didn't cost all that much. I can't really remember for sure offhand, it was a few years ago, but it couldn't have been more than $250 for everything. Just don't buy that /6 from the jackalope in the other thread and you're there LOL

    Found a cool product today.

Thanks for the tip about Wal-Mart having them. Yesterday I was wishing I was smart enough to have ordered one of these for my father-in-law when I first saw this thread, but our Christmas isn't until the 27th, so I have time to run to Wal-Mart!

    Air compressor system basics

I just used black pipe because copper was too spendy, I don't think I could have spent much over $100 for 25' plus the T's, fittings. I don't remember for sure, but it didn't break the bank. Of course your filters are going to be over and above that, don't skimp there. That rapidair system...

    Air compressor system basics

Best to get a minimum of about 20-25' of hard plumbing, angled slightly downhill toward the tank like 67 said, then put the moisture trap/filter at the end. There's a lot of factors at play. Don't be tempted to use PVC for your hard lines, best is copper if possible.

If I want to strip my car to the metal..... what do you recommend?

"a 6hp 30gallon air compresser max 150psi" You can blast with that. It's not ideal, but that's about the size of the first one I used. Had to wait for it to catch up pretty often, to the point it was a bit annoying, but it's big enough that you can make it work.

If I want to strip my car to the metal..... what do you recommend?

2 things, if you're talking about exterior sheet metal, any sand or slag media will tend to warp the metal quickly. Use media like that on non-sheet metal parts. And second, don't use silica sand to blast with, at all. Read up on silicosis. Silica sand breaks up into too fine of dust and causes...

    Best garage floor paint?????

Well like I said, it was here when we bought the house, so I had no control over it. Maybe if it was done right it would be better, but as it is, I absolutely hate it. Will have to consider refinishing at some point, or just leave it as is and deal with it. Good to know it's possible for it to...

    Best garage floor paint?????

I have an epoxy textured coating (I didn't do it, previous owners did) and I hate it. If anything whatsoever gets on it, not only is it hard to clean, but if it's caustic at all, it bubbles the finish right off. I'm sure this is an issue with a lot of coatings, and ideally nothing spills on it...

If I want to strip my car to the metal..... what do you recommend?

Which Air Compressor should I buy?

Well I love my IndustrialAir. If you have Farm & Fleets there (not Fleet Farm), maybe they carry it. I posted this earlier in the thread I think, but I got mine for $1000 when it was on sale, plus got their credit card for another 10% off. Maybe it was less than $1000 at the time. Anyway, it's...
