    Adjusting valves with cold engine

Go read the advice on slantsix.org. there's some good threads there on it. Opinions vary all over, but there's explanations on why cold or warm not running is not preferred. Warm and running is so easy compared to what you'd imagine, I don't really see any reason to take any shortcuts.

    Adjusting valves with cold engine

It's not as hard to do it warm/running as it seems like it would be. It's dirty, but not as dirty as I expected it would be either. I'm talking about the rockers, not the whorehouse, by the way.

    ROSEY RUNS!!!!!!! (sort of)

I had similar issues when I bought my '72 Dart with 225 /6 and I bought the Autoline C7066 carb (Holley 1920 rebuilt) from Rockauto along with the Spectra Premium fuel tank and a new sending unit. I also replaced all the soft fuel line with new fuel injector line (holds up better to ethanol in...

    Why the /6

But it costs a lot more in other upgrades to add the V8. It's not just the engine itself that needs to be swapped. It can be quite an expensive swap. Not to mention that you can often get another good running /6 for free or close to it, pop it in to replace the bad one, and you're done. Much...

cleaning up the slant six head

OK, fair enough. If you can figure out a way to do it safely and adequately for significantly cheaper and without too much time cost, all the better.

cleaning up the slant six head

Why take a chance? /6 heads are free. Find another one and pay a few bucks to have it hot tanked.

    Why the /6

Also, with all the V8 conversions happening, one day, our /6 cars will be RARE! LOL

    Why the /6

I bought my /6 72 with the intention of dropping a 340 or 360 into it. Even started collecting the parts to do it. Then I actually DROVE it. Fell in LOVE with it. It's staying a /6. If it was the only car I could own, maybe it would get the V8 conversion, but it's not. Plus, honestly, I could...

    Different Holley 1920 Carbs?

/6 runs great, randomly stumbles and dies...???

Final update. Installed new tank and new sending unit today. Problem appears to be fixed. I couldn't believe how corroded and crappy the old sending unit was. It was partially just gone. I'm surprised it worked at all, I shudder to think what sort of crud it was throwing into my new carb...

/6 runs great, randomly stumbles and dies...???

I suspect the carb too, but I have checked (twice) the carb seal. That's how I found the detached choke pulloff vacuum hose. I just hope I haven't gunked up my new reman carb with s*** because I didn't clean out or change the fuel tank first. I'm kicking myself now for not doing that first, oh...

/6 runs great, randomly stumbles and dies...???

Interesting. I heard about the possible MP orange box quality issue. The one I got with the kit is my spare, and I've been using an older (but new) USA orange box I had. I also have a brand new Echlin (NAPA) box. It only takes seconds to swap it out, so I may as well try that quick just to make...

/6 runs great, randomly stumbles and dies...???

Bill: I did the EI conversion and I used high quality scotch tape :) j/k, it was the MP kit and I used a butte connector on the only place that needed a connection. I think I did a pretty good job. I'm pretty sure the ignition is solid, but I'll go over it again, and thanks for the tip on wires...

/6 runs great, randomly stumbles and dies...???

Yeah, I was thinking fuel too. When it first happened, I thought timing slipped, because of the way it acted and how sudden it was, but once I got it running again, it seemed more like fuel. What you're saying makes a lot of sense to me... I will do that. It needs to be done either way. Pulling...

/6 runs great, randomly stumbles and dies...???

I know some may want tons of details, understandably, I'll do what I can, but to start, I'll keep it brief (OK, too late, I wrote a lot). History: /6 in 72 Dart sat for about 15 or so years indoors without being started at all apparently. 112k miles. I get it, get it running, convert to...

That looks same as mine on my 72 Dart /6. I think snorkelless are earlier.

    slant six hunt

Assuming you're talking about on the front, if you're making the switch, just go to front disks. That way you get the advantages of disks for the same amount of trouble. It would be silly to do something in between.

HELP! Slant 6 just doesn't want to go!

When you replaced the soft fuel hoses, the one at the front and the one underneath coming off the sending unit, did you use injector hose or just regular old fuel line? Use injector hose, because the ethanol in new gas eats the rubber of fuel line and turns it to jelly. Just throwing this out...

Are All /6 distributors the same ?

Yes, of course good point. Reading between the lines though, the question was really about the distributor cap fit, and they all use the same cap/rotor so far as I know. At least nowadays they all come back with the same part #'s whether electronic ignition or points distributor.

Are All /6 distributors the same ?

Yeah, I have one I can barely fit on at all, and another that fits so loose I don't trust it. The one I have on there now is an Accel. Not saying I recommend the Accel necessarily, but it did fit. Better luck going with the "better" brands, but even that's not a guarantee. I know how you feel...

Are All /6 distributors the same ?

Some caps are just made to different tolerances than others. I have 4 /6 caps here now and they all fit a little different.

Will the '68 Dart 225 run again?

Derp, yeah. I thought about the filler tube for some reason as I was falling asleep last night. I guess if you've never done it before, it may not be obvious :) Definitely take out the filler tube. Remove the grommet from the trunk floor, and unscrew from the filler hole area, then it should...

Will the '68 Dart 225 run again?

Removing the tank is easy. Take out sending unit, make sure to detach the grounding wire (it's small, and I'm assuming a '68 has one, I know later ones do), put a jack or 2 under the tank to hold it, then undo the 2 J bolts at the back, and lower it down while holding it steady. If the J bolts...

    Carb

Even though this wasn't my thread, thanks for the tips and links. I'm pretty sure once I get my 225 on the road, it's going to need a carb rebuild.

    Carb

The 1920 at Rock Auto is $117 + $30 core, so without sending in your old one, about $147. I have heard these are pretty easy carbs to rebuild, so if mine needs attention I'll probably just go that route. I'd definitely jump on a $30 one if it was new/rebuilt. But was that a one-shot deal on...
