What temperature rise should i expect when i turn the AC on?

It has a 165 thermostat in it. That's why it runs there. Not sure what the stock thermostat was, but that's what I usually run. No reason, just always done. Cley

It still runs perfectly fine at 195. No issues at all. Cley

What temperature rise should i expect when i turn the AC on?

74 Plymouth Duster with Factory AC stuff inside and 86ish Dodge truck components undrrhood. Only other thing worthy of note is a nice big aftermarket cross flow condensor infront of the factory 26" rad recored to 3 core. When driving around with the AC off, it warms to 165 on my good Autometer...

    Putting A/C in a formerly-A/C car

It's a Holley part number 46-74. I looked for a stock application I could adapt but didn't find anything cheaper. Cley

Underhood AC thread Not sure if this is an option but I used mid 80s Dodge truck AC parts and a few aftermarket pieces. Cley

Getting hot on the highway with the AC on.

Me? I prefer the look of a stock rad. Unless I could not keep it cool with a stock rad, then il look at an aluminum one. I don't care for the look of them. I'm weird that way. Cley

Getting hot on the highway with the AC on.

I think I'm going to write my PHD thesis on this very subject. I just gotta go back and get my Grade 8 First! LOL! Cley

Getting hot on the highway with the AC on.

The way I see it is there is more surface area to transfer heat in the 26" 3 core so it should be able to handle way more flow than a smaller rad. Cley

Getting hot on the highway with the AC on.

So, I know this cooling thing brings up some pretty heated debate for whatever reason so I will share what appears to be a fix for me. What I found to work was increased coolant flow and a lower thermostat setpoint. The only change I made was going from a standard parts store 185° thermostat to...

Getting hot on the highway with the AC on.

Well I feel kinda dumb posting this but it was finally hot again today (About 95°) and I was out driving with Max AC on and it never broke 190°. I don't know if I had an air bubble in the coolant or what but it was likely hotter today than when I was having trouble before so maybe I was...

Getting hot on the highway with the AC on.

So I went in to the city today and the outside temp was about 95°. After leaving my house and driving 70 down the highway for 10 miles with the AC on I pulled in to my wife's office and it was about 195° engine temp. Came back out 20 minutes later and it was about 215 then cooled to 205 in...

Getting hot on the highway with the AC on.

Factory Duster fan shroud with a 5 blade clutch fan from the same mid 80s Era Dodge truck that the AC components came from. The rubber seal between the hood and core support is not there but I do have one I could install. I guess I better check my fan clutch is good too. The fact that it's...

Getting hot on the highway with the AC on.

The patient, 74 Duster Stock 78 318 with a tiny cam and a 670 Holley on a performer 318/360 intake. Stock ignition, timing is 20 initial and 32 total. A-500 OD auto and 4.10 gears. 2500rpm @ 70 mph. Stock 26" rad that got recored to a 3 core about 3000 miles ago. It's nice and clean! Underhood...

    Factory AC Dart and options

Budget underhood AC retrofit. Not sure if this is of interest. Maybe some or all will help. I installed underhood components from an 80s Dodge truck along with a generic crossflow condenser on my Duster. I did this because all my factory components were missing. Cley

Would my dual snorkel scoop be affecting my cooling at highway speed?

I will seal up the rad support as best as I can, but I am sure it was the open scoop that was the problem. As mentioned before, I taped off the scoop and the problem went away. Cley

Would my dual snorkel scoop be affecting my cooling at highway speed?

Well, let's see what this does for me. It took a while but I am finally going to give this a try. It's a stainless bowl attached to the bottom of my air cleaner. I cut a foam gasket for the top and I think it should be good. Ill report back on how it works in a while. Cley

    Radiator shroud...

It seems to me that the rad is not the problem. Just airflow through the rad at ldle. I agree that it needs to be spaced forward into the shroud a bit more. Definitely check your pulley diameters too. That's the cheap easy most stock looking fix. If those things interest you! Cley

    AC upgrade on 73 Sport

Budget underhood AC retrofit. May be some info for you here. I used truck parts with an aftermarket cross flow condenser in my 74 Duster with stock under dash components. It worked great! I do have more photos if there is something specific you want to see, I may have it. Cley
