Ballast Resistor with Aftermarket Coil and Igntion box

I converted our 1957 Desoto over from points ignition to electronic ignition. I put together my own ignition kit using a Mancini ignition box and an MSD Blaster 2 coil. Right now I have the ballast resistor that came with the MSD coil wired in. In the description the ballast resistor is...

    Weird Starter Issue

What do you mean? It's not the starter or the battery, all connections are good. Following the directions in the FiTech quick start guide, I set the initial timing at 10 degrees. I called tech support they said that to lower the timing I have to pull the distributor again and follow the...

Alright, thanks for the reply. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get another starter.

    Weird Starter Issue

Just started having an odd starter issue. I just finished removing the QFT fuel injection system and replacing it with FiTech. I don't think the starting issue has anything to do with the fuel injection swap, its just coincidence it started to happen at the same time. Anyways I'll turn the...

    Source for Alternator Rebuild Kit

I am looking for a place to get a rebuild/ upgrade kit. I had tried this place: http://store.alternatorparts.com/ho7005-chrysler-square-back-alternator-80-amp-upgrade-kit-1.aspx but after 11 days not hearing from them/ receiving anything, I gave up on them. Has anyone found some other place...

    Alternator Options

I need a higher amperage alternator, I'm going with fuel injection, electric fuel pump, and electric fans, so there is a need for more amps. What alternator would you use, upgrade a Chrysler square back alternator to 100 amps or so or use a later Chrysler built 90 amp alternator with the...

    Starter Rebuild Kit

Anyone know of a source for a complete rebuild kit for a 5.2 magnum starter? Tried 3 local parts stores and nothing available. Apparently people have gotten so lazy they would rather spend $100+ for a new/ rebuilt starter than ~$20 to do it them self.

    383 Spark Plug Heat Range

The pistons that are in the 383 have a large dome, with a spark plug relief. Will I need a non-projected plug or will a projected plug clear? Anyone using Racing plugs in there big block? I'm thinking of the NGK-2298 (this should be stock heat range) or NGK-2746 (should be 1 step cooler than...

    383 Spark Plug Heat Range

I have an old service manual that a J11Y plug should be used in a 1968 383 4 barrel. But by now the engine is far from stock, so It probably needs a different plug. Compression is about 10.0:1 (probably slightly lower after cleaning up the combustion chamber) Mopar solid lifter cam 284/284...

Resistor Spark Plugs, Wires or Both?

What should I be using for my 383? I'll be using a HEI ignition kit with the 383 that will be going into my Ram. Truck will have aftermarket gauges and radio. I'm not sure If I should use resistor plugs or wires.

    Wiper Delay Switch

A 3 speed one would be a step in the right direction. Any particular car have them? I wanted to keep it stock looking, so i didn't want to use an aftermarket one unless I had to. Is anyone re-making the factory switches?

    Wiper Delay Switch

Did some cars come with a Delay setting on the windshield wiper switch instead of just low and high? I use my Duster as a DD and just having the low and high setting is kind of annoying.

    Distributors?

In 2 articles in Mopar Action magazine they recommend a distributor from 1972. The first article is in the Feb 2014 issue, A Spark In Time, where they show you how to rebuild a OEM distributor, or buy a reman one for a 1972 Mopar. Second article is in the Aug 2014 issue, Rebolting Situation...

    E-Core Coil?

I'm going to do an ignition upgrade on my Duster and wanted to replace the coil while I'm at it. I am considering using an E-Core type like posted in the link. I have had luck with Accel coils on my Jeep and was considering using that one. I'm just wondering if it would work with the rest of...

Keeping it Mopar Ignition Upgrade Cheap

I had read about the HEI ignition upgrade that TrailBeast sells on here and almost bought one, but I'm broke right now. After reading into it a little more and looking at the additional upgrades that is recommended for the HEI kit to work at its full potential like the longer tip rotor and the...

    Mopar ECUs?

Well just swapped it in and took it for a drive. It feels so much better with the orange box. I had a hesitation when I stepped on the gas, now its gone. I know the carb needs some tuning yet (cause It has trouble starting when warm), but its so much better with the orange box.

    Mopar ECUs?

Right now my Duster still has the factory 5 pin ECU with 4 pin ballast resistor. I have a 4 pin orange box ECU that was in another project but isn't being used at the moment, can I swap the orange box in without changing the 4 pin ballast? In the tech question in Mopar Action mag this month he...

    New Ignition, Help

Well he says 10-40hp gains. He is no different than anyone else trying to sell a product claiming more horsepower. Take cold air intakes manufacturers they will claim the same kind of gains. So I wouldn't hold that against him. Anyone have any ideas between the 2 setups i was thinking about?

    New Ignition, Help

I was setting the timing on the 360 in my Duster and got a little shock. So one of the wires is leaking, so figured it was time for an upgrade. I was going to get new spiral core 8mm wires, brass cap and rotor and a new Mallory coil 29217. Then get a Rev-n-nator box. Car still has the stock...

    Are E3s worth it?

I tried a set on an 1989 Dakota with a 3.9L 5 speed. Figured it was cheaper to try it on a V6 first than a V8, lol. Didn't feel any difference in power, or gains in fuel economy. Not sure if it was because of the OBD-I PCM and TBI injection. But shows on TV claim gains. So my experience on...

    PCB for my Ralley Gauges

Thanks. I tried to add some copper is some areas, to lower resistance to the gauges and the lights. I was thinking the way that I did this I could duplicate any PCB. I know Year One wants an arm and a leg for the PCBs you can get. I could do it for a lot less.

    PCB for my Ralley Gauges

I was working on little stuff that I could take with me. I had the gauge cluster out and was going to start restoring that. Disassembled that and found that the PCB for the gauges was in poor condition and the pins were loose or pulling out. I couldn't find a place to buy a new one, so after...

It has one wire going in and the strap that is screwed to the case is probably ground.
