Better gauges in a stock cluster?

I dont know if I want to get quite that trick looking, but dang that looks sweet. The backlighting on that looks super clear. I was going to TRY and keep it as stock-looking as possible. I know redline does improvements, but last quote I got from them was a little more than I want to pay.

Better gauges in a stock cluster?

tnts72, that looks nice. How did you secure the mounting for the overlay panel? Drill an identical hole behind where the gauge would sit and use the clamping pods to secure the plate to the old cluster?

Better gauges in a stock cluster?

Yes, just like that! What size guages did you use? The stock holes are pretty small, and most gauges seem to be about 2 1/16" or larger. This would be for a '71 Duster. Same cluster, I believe.

Better gauges in a stock cluster?

Has anyone tried to mount a set of aftermarket gauges behind the face of a non-Rallye dash cluster? I would like to have mine either refreshed of upgraded, and was wondering if anyone had tried this before.

    best distributor for the buck

This is the exact setup I have on my 360 Duster, which replaced an Orange box setup. No changes to timing or the curve. Did it add 20hp? No. Was there a noticeable improvement in response. Definitely.

    recurving distributor

In your experience, what works better, on the timed port or the manifold port on the carb? I suppose I need to experiment, but where do you typically put yours?

Okay, that makes sense. I'll probably have to do some experimentation when the time comes.

    recurving distributor

Now, do you guys use the Mechanical advance exclusively, or use mechanical and vacuum together? I have been trying to figure out how to set up my ignition. Maybe I'm reading too much and not actually trying it for myself. I want to figure out my carburetion and ignition pretty soon, though.
